Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Massacre

The glass-and-steel skyscraper of Kane Capital stood seventy stories above Wall Street, an empire built on ruthless corporate takeovers, billions in venture capital, and generations of aristocratic influence.
By 9:00 AM the following morning, the grand boardroom on the top floor was packed. Twelve executive board members, alongside Uncle Arthur Kane and Eleanor’s high-priced legal team, sat around the polished mahogany table. Outside, rain still drizzled against the windows, reflecting the tense, gloomy atmosphere inside.
Arthur Kane, a pompous man in his late fifties with slicked-back gray hair and a gold signet ring, cleared his throat loud enough to command the room.
"This is unconscionable!" Arthur declared, slamming his hand on the table. "Roman has lost his mind! He shut off the power to his own mother’s estate, frozen her bank accounts, and threatened her personal staff! All over some... lower-class girl he married against the family’s wishes!"
"She is his wife, Arthur," muttered one of the older board members, though his voice lacked conviction.
"She’s an opportunist from Queens!" Eleanor’s chief attorney interjected, standing up. "Mrs. Eleanor Kane was simply asserting her authority as the matriarch of this family. The girl was trespassing on private family property—"
CLACK.
The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open.
Roman stepped inside, flanked by four towering security men clad in tactical black suits. The atmosphere in the room plummeted by ten degrees. Roman wore a bespoke charcoal double-breasted suit, his demeanor as icy and unyielding as a glacier.
He didn't say a word as he walked to the head of the long table. He didn't sit down. He stood there, leaning his large hands on the polished wood, looking down at Arthur like an apex predator evaluating a piece of prey.
"Continue, Arthur," Roman said softly. "You were talking about my wife."
Arthur swallowed hard, adjusting his red silk tie. He tried to puff out his chest. "Roman, you're acting out of passion, not business logic. You’ve paralyzed family assets. You’ve publicly disgraced your mother. The board is considering invoking Section 4 of the corporate bylaws to temporarily suspend your voting power due to emotional incompetence!"
Roman smiled. It was a cold, terrifying bare of teeth.
"Section 4," Roman murmured. He reached inside his jacket, pulled out a thick leather folder, and tossed it into the center of the table. "Julian, explain Section 4 to my dear uncle."
Julian stepped forward from behind Roman, opening a laptop connected to the room's massive projector screen.
"Section 4 allows suspension of executive power only if the CEO acts against the financial interests of the firm," Julian stated professionally. "However, as of 6:00 AM this morning, Mr. Roman Kane purchased seventy-two percent of the debt obligations held by Arthur Kane’s primary subsidiary, Kane Logistics."
Arthur’s face drained of all color. "What?"
"You owe Kane Capital eighty-four million dollars, Arthur," Roman said, leaning closer to his uncle. "Payable on demand. And I am demanding payment... right now."
Arthur began to sweat profusely, looking around the room for help, but every other board member suddenly averted their eyes, terrified of catching Roman’s wrath.
"You... you can't do this! That would liquidate my entire estate!" Arthur stammered.
"I can, and I just did," Roman replied calmly. "And as for the rest of you..." Roman let his piercing eyes sweep over every board member at the table. "If I hear one single word spoken against my wife, if I hear anyone reference her background, her past, or her character, I will not just fire you. I will dismantle your portfolios, short your personal investments, and ruin your families before the market closes at four o'clock."
Silence heavy as lead blanketed the room. Nobody dared to breathe.
"Now," Roman continued, straightening his cuffs. "Where is my mother?"
May you like
"She... she’s at her attorney's office in Midtown," Arthur squeaked, completely defeated. "She’s filing an emergency restraining order against you."
"Good," Roman said, turning on his heel toward the door. "Tell her I’m on my way."
