Chapter 8 - The Clean Break

The following two months were a painful, but necessary, trial of fire for Logan.

Unable to secure refinancing or pay the $112,000 debt owed to my escrow account, Logan and Chelsea were forced to put the Thunderbird Road house on the market under a short-sale arrangement.

The stress of their financial collapse proved to be the final strain on their marriage. Faced with living within an actual budget, Chelsea filed for divorce, taking her remaining personal items and moving back to her parents' home in Oklahoma.

Logan did not fight the divorce. Instead, he sold what little personal property he had, paid off a portion of his high-interest credit cards, and moved into a modest one-bedroom apartment near his office.

Through Fiona, I monitored the process. I did not step in to save the house, nor did I write a check to erase his debts. To do so would have ruined the only meaningful lesson my son had learned in his adult life.

Instead, I watched from a distance as Logan began to rebuild. He started working overtime, cooking his own meals, and taking accountability for his finances. He dropped out of the expensive social clubs and began living within his actual means for the first time.
