Chapter 10 - Dawn of a New Dynasty

Six months later, the sprawling stone mansion on Ashcombe Street looked entirely different.
The dark, foreboding iron gates were gone, replaced by sprawling gardens of white hydrangeas and blooming cherry trees. The windows, once shuttered against the dark world of the Chicago underworld, stood wide open to the warm summer breeze.
Inside the bright, sunlit nursery, Claire stood by the window holding six-month-old Noah as he let out a joyful gurgle, reaching out to grab a colorful mobile spinning lazily above his crib.
Behind her, footsteps echoed softly across the hardwood floor. Strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind, pulling her back against a warm, solid chest. Ethan rested his chin on her shoulder, looking down at the baby with a look of absolute, unreserved devotion.
“He’s getting heavy,” Ethan murmured, kissing the side of her neck.
“He’s growing like a weed,” Claire laughed, leaning back against him. “The pediatrician said he’s in the ninety-ninth percentile for height and stubbornness. I wonder where he gets that from.”
“Definitely his uncle,” Ethan teased, tightening his embrace.
Downstairs, the front doorbell chimed—a pleasant, melodic chime instead of the heavy, threatening knocks of the past.
“That’ll be Sal and the rest of the board,” Ethan sighed good-naturedly. “We have a charity gala to plan for the new children’s wing at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.”
Claire turned in his arms, wrapping her arms around his neck, looking up into the dark eyes that had once held only violence and calculation, but now radiated nothing but warmth and unconditional love.
“Go run your empire, Mr. Blackwood,” Claire smiled softly. “The baby and I will hold down the fort.”

Ethan leaned down and kissed her—deep, slow, and full of a future they had fought through hell to claim.
The shadows of the past were gone, burned away by truth, courage, and a love that had defied an entire empire. And as the morning sun washed over the Ashcombe estate, the Blackwood name finally found peace.
