Chapter 9 - Justice Served

"Kill them both," Arthur commanded coldly, turning toward the gangway of the yacht. "Burn the body in the river."

Before Knox could pull the trigger, red laser sights suddenly painted his chest, Arthur’s back, and the guards surrounding them.

"FEDERAL AGENTS! DROP YOUR WEAPONS!" a loud speaker boomed through the fog.

From behind the shipping containers, two dozen SWAT officers surged forward, shields raised, weapons aimed. Overhead, a federal law enforcement helicopter broke through the cloud cover, blinding the pier with its massive searchlight.

Knox panicked, raising his rifle toward the helicopter.

BANG! BANG!

Two sharp sniper shots echoed from a nearby crane tower. Knox collapsed to the concrete, his weapon clattering into the dark water below. The remaining guards immediately threw their hands up, dropping to their knees.

Arthur froze on the gangway. He looked up at the helicopter, then back at me, his face twisted in utter disbelief and humiliation. He raised his heavy walking cane as if to strike the nearest officer, but a SWAT agent swept his legs out from under him, forcing him face-first onto the cold, wet concrete.

Federal agents snapped heavy steel handcuffs around Arthur Vance’s wrists.

I rushed over to Evelyn, helping Grace stabilize her oxygen mask. Evelyn opened her eyes weakly, looking up at her daughter, then at me.

"It's over, Mrs. Miller," I whispered, holding her cold, frail hand. "Your husband’s name is cleared. You're safe."

Evelyn smiled softly, a single tear rolling down her wrinkled cheek. "Thank you... Henry."
