Chapter 3 - The Sanctuary

I knew Grace and her family were no longer safe in their apartment. If Arthur’s security team had tracked me to her building, it was only a matter of time before they made the connection.

By 4:00 PM that afternoon, I had arranged for a private medical transport team to move Evelyn, Grace, and her three younger siblings—Maya, Leo, and little Toby—out of their South Side apartment. I relocated them to a private, heavily guarded estate I owned in the North Georgia mountains—a property registered under a blind trust that even Arthur didn't know about.

When the transport van arrived at the mountain house, Grace stood on the wide stone porch, looking at the surrounding pine forests and the pristine, comfortable sanctuary.

"Why are you doing all this, Mr. Oseni?" Grace asked quietly as the nurses wheeled her mother inside to a fully equipped medical suite I had set up.

"Because my name is Henry, Grace," I said, stepping beside her. "And because for twenty years, I lived off the sacrifice of a man whose family was left to starve. I can never repay your father, but I can make sure his killers face justice."

Grace pulled a folded paper from her pocket. "There's more in the ledger, Henry. My father noted that the tracking device was purchased through a shell company registered in Delaware called 'Apex Capital.' He wrote down the primary account number."

I looked at the number. It was the exact account through which Oseni-Vance Hotels processed its international offshore investments.

"He didn't just want to kill me to take over the company," I realized aloud. "He wanted my shares so he could use our hotel chain to launder funds for international syndicates without my interference."

"He thought you were too soft," Grace said softly. "My father wrote in his journal that you were a good man who refused to take dirty money, and that's why they wanted you gone."
