Chapter 6 - The Media Storm

The respite was short-lived. By Friday morning, Eleanor's sudden, unexplained resignation from Vance Enterprises had sparked a firestorm in the financial media.
Tabloids began running wild speculation. Headlines flared across the city: "VANCE ENTERPRISES IN TURMOIL: WHY DID ELEANOR VANCE FLEE TO FLORIDA?" "ARTHUR VANCE CANCELS $2B MIDTOWN DEAL – IS MANHATTAN'S REAL ESTATE KING COLLAPSING?"
Paparazzi began gathering outside Vance Tower and the entrances of major luxury hotels across Midtown. Someone on the hotel staff had leaked a rumor that Arthur Vance was keeping a mysterious woman and three infants on the top floor of The Plaza.
Julian Crosby called me at seven in the morning, his voice bordering on panic. "Arthur, the press is outside your hotel! The board of directors is threatening an emergency vote of no confidence if you don't issue a statement regarding the Midtown project by noon!"
I stood by the window, watching the swarm of news vans parked on Fifth Avenue below.
"Arthur?" Madeline's voice came from behind me. She was holding Noah, looking anxiously at the buzzing phone in my hand. "What's happening?"
"The media knows," I said calmly, turning to her. "They're trying to spin a narrative that will destroy Vance Enterprises and turn our private lives into a circus show."
"What are we going to do?" she asked, fear creeping back into her voice. "Are they going to photograph the babies?"
"No," I said, a firm resolve taking hold of me. "They want a story? I'm going to give them the truth."
I called Julian back. "Julian, set up a press conference in the main lobby of Vance Tower at eleven o'clock today. Invite every major media outlet in the city—The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, and local news."
"Arthur, are you crazy?!" Julian gasped. "If you go out there without a prepared PR strategy, the shareholders will panic!"
"Tell them the Chairman of the Board will be addressing the future of Vance Enterprises," I said firmly. "And tell them to bring their cameras."
At 10:45 AM, I stood in front of the mirror in the penthouse suite, adjusting my tie. Madeline walked up behind me, reaching out to gently adjust my collar.

"Are you sure about this, Arthur?" she asked softly, her eyes searching mine.
I turned around, taking both of her hands in mine. "For five years, my family was hidden in the dark, Madeline. I am never going to make you hide again. It's time the world knows who you are—and who I truly am."
