Chapter 7 - The Mastermind's Gambit

Two days after the Metropolitan Gala, the legal hammer fell with final, terrifying precision upon the remaining members of the Norton family.
Inside a stark, windowless interrogation room at the Manhattan District Attorney's office, Bradley Norton sat at a stainless steel table, handcuffed to a floor ring. Across from him sat Assistant District Attorney Marcus Cole, along with two senior investigators from the New York State Department of Financial Crimes.
On the table lay five thick manila folders containing bank ledgers, tax returns, and real estate wire receipts.
"Mr. Norton," ADA Cole said, opening the first binder. "Three days ago, your wife’s legal team submitted a comprehensive forensic audit of your corporate accounts from 2021 through 2025."
Bradley leaned forward, his eyes bloodshot, his voice hoarse from two days of non-stop crying in a holding cell. "I told you! My ex-wife set me up! She’s a billionaire! She orchestrated the whole thing!"
"Your ex-wife didn't force you to commit federal tax evasion, Mr. Norton," ADA Cole replied flatly, sliding a document across the table. "This is a wire transfer log showing three hundred and fifty thousand dollars transferred from your firm's escrow client accounts directly into a private account in the Cayman Islands registered under your mother’s name, Pamela Norton."
Bradley’s heart stopped. "What... what?"
"Your mother used client funds to pay off her personal gambling debts at casinos in Atlantic City," Cole continued relentlessly. "And when you realized the escrow account was empty, you forged your wife’s signature on a fraudulent second mortgage application on your suburban home to cover the deficit."
"I didn't... my mother said it was fine!" Bradley panicked, hammering his cuffed hands against the table. "She said Meredith was too stupid to ever read the mortgage papers!"
"Well, your mother was wrong," Cole sneered. "Pamela Norton was arrested two hours ago at her apartment in Queens. She is being charged as a co-conspirator in grand larceny, wire fraud, and mortgage forgery. Given the amount exceeds two million dollars, she is facing a mandatory minimum sentence of eight to twelve years in state prison."
Bradley collapsed forward onto the cold metal table, weeping uncontrollably as the dark, inescapable reality of his greed crushed him into nothingness.
While Bradley was being indicted in Manhattan, Tanya Davis was experiencing her own public humiliation in Miami.
After being dropped by every modeling agency and luxury endorsement brand in New York, Tanya had fled to South Beach, hoping to use her remaining social media clout to secure a position as a promoter for high-end VIP clubs.
At 2:00 p.m., while sitting at an outdoor cafe on Ocean Drive sipping a cocktail, two uniformed Miami-Dade police officers walked up to her table.
"Tanya Davis?" the lead officer asked.
Tanya took off her designer sunglasses, frowning. "Yes? What is this about? If this is about my parking tickets—"
"Tanya Davis, you are under arrest pursuant to an extradition warrant issued by the State of New York for felony grand larceny and conspiracy to commit corporate embezzlement," the officer announced loudly, stepping forward with handcuffs.

The tourists and patrons at the surrounding tables immediately pulled out their phones, recording videos as Florida’s most prominent former Instagram model was forced to stand up, her hands pinned behind her back, her designer purse falling into the dirt as she was led away sobbing into the back of a marked police cruiser.
By evening, the video had gone viral across the internet with millions of views under the trending hashtag: #TheCakeMistressArrested.
