Chapter 7 - The New Administration

The corporate headquarters of Mercedes Auto Logistics in Corona, Queens, was a sprawling, multi-million-dollar facility containing three massive warehouses filled with high-end imported car components. For the past year, the employees had grown accustomed to Javier showing up at 2:00 PM in his luxury SUV, screaming about delivery delays, and demanding cash advances from the vault before leaving for the day.
At 10:00 AM that morning, a sleek, black sedan pulled up to the primary administrative entrance.
The heavy glass doors opened, and Lucia walked into the main lobby. She was no longer wearing her damp nursing apron or her comfortable hospital shoes. She was dressed in a sharp, tailored charcoal suit, her dark hair pulled back into a professional chignon, her face carrying a calm, unyielding dignity. Beside her walked Licenciado Vargas and a team of four independent forensic auditors from Midtown Manhattan.
The main office manager, a middle-aged woman named Ramona who had worked for Mrs. Mercedes for fifteen years, stood up from her desk, her eyes wide with shock.
"Lucia?" Ramona gasped. "What... what is happening? Javier called the warehouse line an hour ago screaming about a bank freeze, but his line cut off."
"Javier is no longer associated with this company, Ramona," Lucia said, her voice carrying a clear, resonant authority that instantly silenced the entire open-plan office. "As of midnight, the board of trustees has activated the secondary administration clause. I am assuming full executive control of Mercedes Auto Logistics effective immediately."
She walked straight toward Javier’s private corner office—the office that had belonged to his grandfather. She opened the door, looked at the empty crystal decanters and the cigar wrappers scattered across the mahogany desk, and turned to the security guard standing in the hallway.
"Change the locks on this office immediately," Lucia commanded. "Every computer terminal attached to Javier’s user ID needs to be completely wiped and re-formatted. Ramona, I want a complete inventory of the physical vault cash and the last three months of shipping manifests laid out on the conference table in thirty minutes."
A slow, profound wave of relief washed over Ramona’s face. A brilliant smile broke through her professional demeanor. "Yes, Doña Lucia. Right away. We’ve been praying for this day. Javier was going to destroy everything your grandfather built."
Lucia sat down at the head of the conference table, opening her master digital tablet, which was now linked directly to the central bank accounts. She looked at the numbers—the true numbers of the business. Despite Javier’s reckless spending, the core infrastructure of the company was incredibly strong, anchored by long-term distribution contracts with major dealerships across the East Coast.
She pulled up a live video feed from the Isabella Complex.
On the screen, Mrs. Mercedes was resting in her sunlit suite, a specialized physical therapist gently massaging her left arm. The old woman looked calm, her eyes fixed on the camera lens that Lucia had set up so they could stay connected.

Lucia pressed the microphone button on her tablet. "Meche, can you hear me? I’m at the office. Grandfather’s desk is clean. We are restoring the lineage today."
On the monitor, Mrs. Mercedes closed her eyes once, a long, deliberate blink that was her clear, beautiful sign of absolute approval.
