Chapter 9 - A NEW DAWN

The wedding of Hector Elizondo and Mariana was the complete opposite of the opulent, cold spectacles usually held by the Mexico City elite.

It took place in the courtyard garden of the Mariana Health Center in Nezahualcóyotl, surrounded by fresh flowers, colorful banners, and real friends. There were no fake high-society politicians or tabloid photographers. Instead, the guest list consisted of local community members, nurses, Julian Alvarez, Rosa, and the staff who had truly supported them.

Mariana looked radiant in an elegant, simple white lace dress that flowed gracefully to the ground. Hector, handsome in a tailored navy suit, stood at the altar, holding one-year-old Gael, while Rosa held Nicholas.

The twins, now robust, energetic toddlers, wore tiny matching tuxedos and were babbling happily, completely at ease in the crowd.

As Mariana walked down the aisle on the arm of a senior physician who had mentored her in her youth, Hector felt a swell of gratitude so immense it brought tears to his eyes. He remembered the desperate, broken man who had climbed the marble stairs five months ago, terrified of the unnatural silence in his house.

Now, his life was filled with noise, laughter, music, and love.

The local parish priest delivered a simple, profound sermon on love, sacrifice, and the true meaning of family.

"Love does not boast, it does not envy, and it is not proud," the priest read, looking at the couple. "It protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."

When it came time for the vows, Hector looked deep into Mariana’s eyes.

"Mariana, when my world was in dark chaos, you were the light that guided me home," Hector said, his voice ringing with absolute sincerity. "You showed me that a home isn't built with marble or money, but with heart, patience, and love. I promise to cherish you, honor you, and stand by you through every storm, for all the days of my life."

Mariana smiled, a tear slipping down her cheek. "Hector, you proved to me that real strength is the courage to love again after loss. You opened your heart to me, trusted me with your greatest treasures—Gael and Nicholas—and showed me that love knows no boundaries. I give you my heart, my life, and my eternal devotion."

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the priest declared with a beaming smile. "You may kiss the bride!"

Hector pulled Mariana into his arms and kissed her passionately as the crowd erupted into joyful applause, tossing flower petals into the air. The twins babbled excitedly, clapping their tiny hands as their family was officially made whole.
