CHAPTER 4 – THE FALL OF VIVIAN MORETTI

The world woke up to a scandal that shook one of the most powerful families in the country.

By sunrise, every major news network had the same headline.

“Castillo Heiress Figure Vivian Moretti Arrested After Three-Year Disappearance Mystery Is Solved.”

For years, Vivian Moretti had carefully built an image.

The elegant woman.

The loyal friend.

The compassionate supporter who stood beside Alejandro Castillo after his wife vanished.

She attended charity events.

She donated millions.

She smiled for cameras.

She comforted Alejandro when the world believed Elena had abandoned him.

Everyone saw a victim.

Everyone saw a woman who had suffered alongside him.

Nobody saw the monster hiding beneath the perfect appearance.

Until now.

Vivian sat inside the courtroom wearing a designer suit.

Even there, she tried to maintain control.

Her hair was perfectly styled.

Her posture was confident.

Her expression calm.

She wanted everyone watching to believe she was still powerful.

Still untouchable.

But for the first time in years...

Nobody believed the performance.

Because sitting across the courtroom was Elena Castillo.

Alive.

The woman Vivian had tried to erase.

The woman she had convinced herself would never return.

Elena sat beside Alejandro.

Her hands were folded tightly.

She was nervous.

Afraid.

But she was there.

And that was enough.

Three years ago, Vivian had taken away Elena's voice.

Today, Elena had come back to reclaim it.

The prosecutor stood.

“Your Honor, the evidence will prove that Vivian Moretti orchestrated the disappearance of Elena Castillo.”

The courtroom became silent.

“She manipulated witnesses.”

“She created false evidence suggesting Mrs. Castillo abandoned her marriage.”

“She imprisoned Mrs. Castillo inside the Castillo estate.”

“And she attempted to conceal the crime for three years.”

Vivian's lawyer immediately stood.

“My client denies these accusations.”

He looked toward Elena.

“There is no physical proof that Vivian personally locked this woman inside a room.”

Alejandro's expression darkened.

But Elena remained calm.

Because she knew something.

The truth didn't need anger.

It only needed to be revealed.

The first witness entered.

Maria.

One of the Castillo mansion's oldest servants.

The woman who had spent twenty years working for the family.

She looked terrified.

Vivian turned toward her.

Their eyes met.

And for a second, Maria almost looked away.

Almost.

Then she remembered Elena.

She remembered the girl she once knew.

The woman who always thanked servants.

The woman who remembered birthdays.

The woman who treated everyone like family.

Maria took a deep breath.

“I saw her.”

The prosecutor approached.

“Saw who?”

“Mrs. Castillo.”

The courtroom held its breath.

“After everyone believed she disappeared?”

Maria nodded.

“Yes.”

“When?”

“The first night.”

Alejandro's eyes widened.

The first night.

The night everyone believed Elena was gone.

Maria continued.

“I was bringing fresh towels upstairs when I heard crying.”

Her voice shook.

“I followed the sound.”

“And what did you see?”

Maria looked at Vivian.

“I saw Mrs. Castillo inside the old guest room.”

Silence.

“She was screaming for help.”

A murmur spread through the courtroom.

“She begged me to open the door.”

Maria lowered her head.

“But Vivian found me.”

The prosecutor asked:

“What did Vivian do?”

Maria's hands trembled.

“She told me if I said anything, my family would lose everything.”

Alejandro closed his eyes.

Another person who had been afraid.

Another person Vivian controlled.

The second witness was unexpected.

A former security employee.

A man named Thomas.

He had disappeared from the Castillo company shortly after Elena vanished.

When he entered the courtroom, Vivian's expression changed.

For the first time...

She looked afraid.

The prosecutor smiled slightly.

“Mr. Thomas, can you explain your connection to Vivian Moretti?”

Thomas looked at Vivian.

“She paid me.”

“For what?”

“To disable the security cameras on the east side of the mansion.”

The courtroom erupted.

Vivian's lawyer immediately objected.

But the judge allowed the testimony.

Thomas continued.

“She told me it was a private family matter.”

“And you believed her?”

Thomas looked ashamed.

“I did.”

“Why did you come forward now?”

He looked at Elena.

“Because I saw what she did to that woman.”

A pause.

“And I couldn't live with it anymore.”

But Vivian wasn't finished.

She leaned toward her lawyer.

Whispering.

Planning.

Because Vivian Moretti didn't survive this long by surrendering.

She had one final weapon.

A secret.

A secret she had protected for three years.

During the break, Alejandro found Elena standing alone outside the courtroom.

She looked exhausted.

He approached slowly.

“You don't have to continue.”

She looked at him.

“Yes, I do.”

“You've already been through enough.”

Elena shook her head.

“No.”

Her voice was stronger.

“I survived because I believed one day someone would know the truth.”

She looked back toward the courtroom.

“Today is that day.”

Alejandro stared at her.

And for the first time since finding her...

He didn't see someone broken.

He saw someone powerful.

“You're stronger than you know.”

Elena smiled sadly.

“I had to be.”

When the trial resumed, Vivian's lawyer stood.

“Your Honor, we would like to present evidence regarding Elena Castillo's mental condition after her disappearance.”

Alejandro immediately stood.

“What?”

The lawyer continued.

“The defense believes Mrs. Castillo's memories may not be reliable due to prolonged trauma.”

A wave of whispers filled the room.

Vivian watched Elena carefully.

Waiting for her to break.

Waiting for fear.

But Elena didn't.

She simply looked at Vivian.

And said:

“You really thought you could do this forever?”

The entire courtroom became silent.

Vivian smiled.

“You're still emotional.”

“No.”

Elena shook her head.

“I was emotional when I begged you to let me go.”

Her voice became colder.

“I was emotional when I cried alone every night.”

A pause.

“But today?”

She looked around the courtroom.

“Today I remember everything.”

Vivian's smile disappeared.

The prosecutor approached Elena.

“Mrs. Castillo, can you tell the court what happened the night you disappeared?”

Elena took a deep breath.

“Yes.”

She closed her eyes.

And returned to the darkest night of her life.

“Vivian told me Alejandro was injured.”

Alejandro looked down.

“I followed her because I trusted her.”

She continued.

“When I arrived at the mansion, she locked the door.”

“What happened next?”

“She told me nobody would believe me.”

Elena's voice shook.

“She told me Alejandro would eventually forget me.”

A tear rolled down her cheek.

“She said I was only valuable because I was his wife.”

The courtroom became silent.

“But then she said something I never forgot.”

The prosecutor leaned closer.

“What did she say?”

Elena looked directly at Vivian.

“She said…”

A pause.

“‘When I'm Mrs. Castillo, nobody will remember you.’”

For the first time...

Vivian looked small.

Not powerful.

Not dangerous.

Just exposed.

But then she laughed.

Quietly.

Almost calmly.

Everyone looked at her.

“You all think you know the truth.”

Alejandro narrowed his eyes.

“What are you talking about?”

Vivian looked at him.

“You really believe Elena's disappearance was about me?”

The room froze.

Alejandro stepped forward.

“What does that mean?”

Vivian smiled.

“You think I was the mastermind?”

She laughed.

“I was only doing what I was told.”

A cold silence filled the courtroom.

“By who?”

Vivian looked toward Alejandro.

And whispered:

“Ask your family.”

The courtroom exploded.

Alejandro stood frozen.

His family.

Again.

The same word.

The same warning.

Someone inside the Castillo family was involved.

The judge ordered silence.

But Alejandro couldn't hear anything anymore.

Because suddenly every memory became suspicious.

Every conversation.

Every person who offered help.

Every person who comforted him after Elena disappeared.

Someone had been lying.

Someone close.

That night, Alejandro returned home with Elena.

Neither spoke much.

The revelation had changed everything.

Vivian was not the end.

She was only a piece.

A pawn.

Elena stood by the window.

“I knew she wasn't alone.”

Alejandro came beside her.

“You should have told me.”

“I was afraid.”

“Of me?”

She looked at him.

“No.”

A pause.

“Of what would happen if I was wrong.”

Alejandro softened.

“You were trapped for three years.”

He took her hand.

“You don't have to be afraid anymore.”

But before Elena could answer...

The lights suddenly went out.

The entire house went dark.

Alejandro immediately moved in front of her.

“Stay behind me.”

A sound came from upstairs.

A door opening.

Slow footsteps.

Someone was inside.

Alejandro grabbed his phone.

“Security?”

No response.

The signal was dead.

Then a voice echoed through the darkness.

A voice Alejandro recognized.

A voice from the past.

A voice that should have been impossible.

“Hello, son.”

Elena froze.

Alejandro's blood ran cold.

Because standing at the top of the staircase...

Was the man everyone believed had died fifteen years ago.

His father.

The former head of Castillo Industries.

Gabriel Castillo.

Alive.

And smiling.

“You've spent three years searching for the truth.”

Gabriel slowly descended.

“But you never asked the most important question.”

Alejandro stared at him.

“What question?”

Gabriel stopped.

“Why did Elena disappear?”

The mansion fell silent.

Then Gabriel smiled.

“Because, Alejandro…”

May you like

A pause.

“Your family needed her gone.”
