CHAPTER 2 – THE MONSTER BEHIND THE BEAUTIFUL SMILE

The sound of Vivian Moretti’s arrest echoed through the Castillo mansion like thunder.
For three years, the mansion had been filled with elegant dinners, expensive conversations, and carefully constructed lies.
Tonight, the illusion finally collapsed.
The woman who had walked through those halls as a member of the family was now being escorted away in handcuffs.
The servants watched silently from the corners.
Some looked shocked.
Others looked relieved.
Because everyone in that house knew something had been wrong.
They just didn't know how deep the darkness went.
Alejandro stood in the foyer, holding Elena's hand.
He refused to let go.
Not even for a second.
It wasn't because he thought she would disappear again.
It was because some part of him still couldn't believe she was real.
After three years of searching...
After three years of imagining every possible tragedy...
After three years of blaming himself...
She was finally standing beside him.
Alive.
Breathing.
But broken.
And that was the part he couldn't forgive.
Not her.
Never her.
Himself.
Because while he was searching the world for Elena...
She had been suffering inside the walls of the place where he was supposed to protect her.
The private hospital room was quiet.
Too quiet.
Alejandro stood outside the door for several minutes before entering.
He had faced business enemies.
Ruthless competitors.
People who tried to destroy his company.
He had never been afraid of any of them.
But now...
He was afraid of his own wife.
Not because she could hurt him.
Because he was terrified she would look at him and see the man who failed her.
When he finally entered, Elena was sitting by the window.
She wore a simple sweater and comfortable clothes the doctors had given her.
No maid uniform.
No signs of Vivian.
No reminders of that house.
But the sadness remained.
“Elena.”
She turned.
A small smile appeared.
“You came.”
The words broke him.
Of course he came.
He would never leave again.
But he understood why she said it.
Because for three years, she had waited for someone to come.
And nobody did.
“I told you I would stay.”
Elena looked down.
“I know.”
A pause.
“But I need time to believe it.”
Alejandro nodded.
“You can have all the time you need.”
He sat across from her.
For several moments, neither spoke.
Then Elena whispered:
“She wasn't always like that.”
Alejandro looked up.
“Vivian?”
Elena nodded.
“She was my friend.”
Her voice became distant.
“We met before you and I married. She was kind. Funny. She listened to me when I was nervous about joining the Castillo family.”
Alejandro frowned.
“Then what happened?”
Elena looked outside.
“Power changed her.”
She took a deep breath.
“No. Maybe power didn't change her.”
A sad smile appeared.
“Maybe power showed who she really was.”
Three years earlier.
Before the disappearance.
Before the prison.
Before everything changed.
Elena remembered the day Vivian came to the mansion.
She arrived with flowers.
A beautiful smile.
And a story.
She told Elena she had lost everything after her father's company collapsed.
She told her she felt like the world had abandoned her.
Elena, being Elena, opened her heart.
She helped her.
She convinced Alejandro to give Vivian a position at Castillo International.
She defended her when others questioned her intentions.
She never imagined she was inviting danger into her own home.
“At first, she only wanted your attention,” Elena said.
Alejandro's expression hardened.
“She wanted me?”
Elena nodded.
“She admired you.”
A pause.
“Then she became obsessed.”
Alejandro looked away.
He remembered.
The late-night messages.
The unnecessary business meetings.
The constant presence.
But he never suspected anything.
Because he trusted Elena.
And because Elena trusted Vivian.
“She started telling me small things,” Elena continued.
“Things that sounded harmless.”
“Like what?”
“That you were unhappy.”
Alejandro froze.
“She told me you felt trapped in our marriage.”
His jaw tightened.
“That was a lie.”
“I know that now.”
Elena looked at him.
“But back then, she planted doubt.”
Alejandro remembered those months.
He remembered Elena becoming quieter.
More distant.
He thought she was stressed.
He thought marriage was going through a difficult period.
He never realized someone was manipulating them.
“She wanted us to fight.”
Elena's voice trembled.
“She wanted me to leave you.”
“But you didn't.”
“No.”
A tear formed in her eye.
“And that's when she became dangerous.”
The night Elena disappeared was the night everything changed.
She remembered every second.
Vivian had come to her room.
She looked nervous.
Almost afraid.
She told Elena there was an emergency.
That Alejandro had been involved in an accident.
That he was at a private hospital.
Elena didn't think.
She trusted her.
She followed her.
And that was the last normal moment of her life.
“When I got into the car, I realized something was wrong.”
Alejandro listened carefully.
“The driver wasn't someone I knew.”
His hands tightened.
“Where did they take you?”
“The old east wing.”
His face darkened.
“But why?”
Elena looked at him.
“Because Vivian needed me gone.”
“Why?”
A long silence followed.
Then Elena said:
“Because she discovered something.”
“What?”
Elena looked terrified.
Something she had not said before.
Something even worse.
“She discovered I was pregnant.”
The room went completely silent.
Alejandro stopped breathing.
“What?”
Elena's eyes filled with tears.
“I was going to tell you that night.”
Alejandro stared at her.
“You were pregnant?”
She nodded.
“For almost two months.”
His hand covered his mouth.
A thousand emotions hit him at once.
Joy.
Pain.
Anger.
Grief.
“Alejandro...”
His eyes became wet.
“We had a baby?”
Elena looked away.
“I lost the baby.”
The words destroyed him.
No anger.
No revenge.
Nothing mattered compared to that moment.
He moved closer.
“I'm sorry.”
Elena cried quietly.
“She told me nobody would ever believe me.”
“She said you would think I ran away because I didn't love you anymore.”
“She said if I caused trouble, she would make sure everyone thought I was crazy.”
Alejandro closed his eyes.
The guilt was unbearable.
“She took my child from me.”
Elena's voice broke.
“She took three years of my life.”
Alejandro reached for her hand.
This time, she allowed him.
“I swear to you,” he said.
“Everything she did will come to light.”
Meanwhile, inside the Castillo mansion...
Vivian sat in the interrogation room.
She wasn't crying.
She wasn't begging.
She was calculating.
Because Vivian Moretti had survived her entire life by understanding one thing:
People only saw what you showed them.
And she had spent years building a perfect image.
The poor girl who needed help.
The loyal friend.
The woman who supported Alejandro after Elena disappeared.
But there was one problem.
Alejandro now knew the truth.
And worse...
He had Elena.
A detective placed a folder on the table.
“We found evidence from the east wing.”
Vivian said nothing.
“Security footage.”
Nothing.
“Financial records.”
Still nothing.
The detective leaned forward.
“You're facing serious charges.”
Finally, Vivian smiled.
“You think this ends with me?”
The detective frowned.
“What does that mean?”
Vivian leaned back.
“You really believe Alejandro Castillo knows everything?”
The detective said nothing.
Vivian's smile widened.
“He has no idea what his wife was involved in before she disappeared.”
At the hospital, Elena woke up from a nightmare.
She was back in that room.
The locked door.
The cold floor.
Vivian's voice.
"You don't deserve him."
She woke up screaming.
Alejandro was beside her instantly.
“Elena!”
She grabbed his arm.
“Don't leave.”
His heart shattered.
“I won't.”
“Promise me.”
“I promise.”
She looked into his eyes.
“Even if you find out everything?”
Alejandro frowned.
“What does that mean?”
Elena hesitated.
Then whispered:
“There is something I never told you.”
A cold feeling moved through him.
“What?”
She looked terrified.
“The night I disappeared…”
She swallowed.
“I saw something.”
“What?”
“Alejandro…”
Her voice dropped.
“Vivian wasn't working alone.”
The room went silent.
“What?”
“There was another person.”
His expression changed.
“Who?”
Elena looked toward the door.
As if afraid someone might hear.
“Someone close to you.”
Alejandro felt the world shift.
“Who?”
Elena's lips trembled.
“I don't know his name.”
A pause.
“But Vivian called him…”
Her voice became almost a whisper.
“Brother.”
Across the city, inside a luxurious apartment...
A man poured himself a drink while watching the news.
The headline appeared:
"ALEJANDRO CASTILLO'S MISSING WIFE FOUND ALIVE — VIVIAN MORETTI ARRESTED."
The man smiled.
Not surprised.
Not angry.
Amused.
He picked up his phone.
One message appeared:
She remembers.
He stared at it.
Then deleted it.
Because he knew something Alejandro didn't.
Vivian was only the beginning.
The real person behind Elena's disappearance had never been caught.
And now that Elena was back...
The truth would come looking for them.
The man looked out over the city lights.
“Welcome home, Elena.”
He smiled.
May you like
“Now the real game begins.”
