CHAPTER 1 – The Wife Who Was Buried Alive in Silence

The mansion had never felt so silent.

Not the peaceful kind of silence that came after a long day.

Not the elegant silence that belonged to wealthy homes filled with expensive paintings, crystal chandeliers, and polished marble floors.

This was the silence of fear.

The kind of silence that happened when everyone in the room knew something terrible had finally been exposed.

Alejandro Castillo stood in the center of the grand foyer, staring at the woman kneeling before him.

His wife.

His Elena.

The woman he had spent three years trying to find.

Three years of unanswered calls.

Three years of investigators searching through thousands of useless clues.

Three years of waking up in the middle of the night, convinced he had heard her voice calling his name.

Three years of wondering if she was alive.

And now she was here.

Not in some distant country.

Not hidden by a stranger.

Not lost somewhere beyond his reach.

She had been in his own home.

Working as a maid.

Living under the control of the woman standing only a few feet away.

Vivian Moretti.

Alejandro slowly turned his gaze toward her.

The woman who had smiled beside him at charity events.

The woman who had comforted him when Elena disappeared.

The woman who had looked him in the eyes and said:

“I'm sorry, Alejandro. Some people are simply not meant to come back.”

At the time, he had believed her.

Now those words felt like poison.

Vivian noticed the change in his expression.

The confidence she had carried moments ago began to crack.

“Alejandro...” she said softly.

Her voice was different now.

No longer amused.

No longer arrogant.

It carried uncertainty.

Fear.

“You're misunderstanding what you saw.”

Alejandro didn't answer.

His eyes remained fixed on Elena.

The woman who was still kneeling on the floor.

The woman who looked smaller than he remembered.

Three years ago, Elena had been full of life.

She had been the woman who filled every room she entered.

She laughed loudly.

She argued passionately.

She loved without hesitation.

She had been the only person in his life who never cared about his money, his company, or his family name.

She loved Alejandro Castillo before he became the powerful CEO everyone feared.

She loved the man beneath the title.

But the woman in front of him now...

She looked like someone who had spent years fighting just to survive.

Her once-bright eyes were filled with exhaustion.

Her beautiful dark hair was messy and uneven.

Her hands were covered with small cuts.

And when Vivian spoke...

Elena flinched.

A small movement.

Almost invisible.

But Alejandro saw it.

And his heart broke.

Because he finally understood.

Elena wasn't afraid of the world.

She was afraid of someone inside this house.

Someone she had been forced to live with every single day.

“Elena.”

His voice softened.

The anger disappeared for a moment.

Only love remained.

“Look at me.”

Slowly, Elena lifted her head.

Their eyes met.

And for a second, neither of them moved.

Three years disappeared.

The mansion disappeared.

The people around them disappeared.

There was only the woman he loved and the pain written across her face.

“Alejandro...” she whispered.

His name.

Just his name.

But hearing it from her lips nearly destroyed him.

He walked toward her.

One step.

Then another.

But Elena suddenly moved backward.

Not because she didn't want him near.

Because she was scared.

Alejandro stopped immediately.

The realization cut deeper than any accusation.

She was afraid even of being touched.

“I’m sorry,” Elena whispered.

A tear rolled down her cheek.

“I’m sorry you had to see me like this.”

Alejandro felt his chest tighten.

“Sorry?”

His voice cracked.

“Why are you apologizing?”

Elena looked down.

“Because I failed.”

Those two words hit him harder than anything.

“You failed?”

Alejandro shook his head.

“No.”

His voice became firm.

“No, Elena. You didn't fail.”

He looked around the mansion.

At the servants who stood frozen.

At the expensive decorations.

At the beautiful prison where his wife had suffered.

“Someone failed you.”

His eyes returned to Vivian.

“And I need to know who.”

Vivian immediately stepped forward.

“Alejandro, listen to me. This woman is unstable.”

The servants exchanged nervous looks.

“She has been through a lot. She disappeared for years. You don't know what happened to her.”

Alejandro slowly turned.

The temperature in the room seemed to drop.

“You're telling me my wife is lying?”

Vivian hesitated.

Only for a second.

But it was enough.

Alejandro saw it.

The hesitation.

The fear.

“You know exactly who she is,” he said quietly.

Vivian forced a laugh.

“Of course I know who she is. Everyone knows Elena Castillo disappeared.”

“No.”

Alejandro took a step toward her.

“You knew she was here.”

The entire room went still.

Vivian's expression changed.

Only slightly.

But Alejandro noticed.

“You knew.”

His voice became colder.

“You knew my wife was alive.”

Vivian said nothing.

“Elena was inside this mansion for three years.”

His hands tightened.

“Three years.”

The pain in his voice was worse than anger.

“How many times did you see her?”

Silence.

“How many times did you walk past her?”

Another silence.

“How many times did you look at my wife cleaning the floors while I was searching for her?”

Vivian's face hardened.

“You're making a mistake.”

“No.”

Alejandro shook his head.

“For three years, I made mistakes.”

He looked at Elena.

“I believed the wrong people.”

Then back at Vivian.

“I trusted the wrong person.”

Vivian's mask finally started to fall.

“You think she is innocent?”

The room froze.

Elena's body stiffened.

Alejandro noticed.

“What does that mean?”

Vivian smiled again.

But this time, it wasn't confidence.

It was desperation.

“You don't know what happened three years ago.”

Alejandro's expression changed.

“What happened?”

Vivian looked directly at Elena.

And Elena immediately lowered her eyes.

That reaction told Alejandro everything.

Something was hidden.

Something worse than he imagined.

“Tell me,” Alejandro demanded.

Nobody spoke.

The silence stretched.

Then Elena whispered:

“She knows.”

Alejandro turned.

“Elena?”

“She knows why I disappeared.”

The words were barely audible.

But they shattered everything.

Vivian's face went pale.

“Don't.”

It was the first time Alejandro heard fear in Vivian's voice.

Elena looked at her.

And for the first time since Alejandro found her...

The fear disappeared.

Something stronger replaced it.

Pain.

Anger.

A determination that had been buried for years.

“I spent three years wondering if I would ever leave that room.”

Alejandro froze.

“What room?”

Elena swallowed.

“The room where she kept me.”

The entire mansion went silent.

Even the servants looked horrified.

Alejandro felt like the ground beneath him had disappeared.

“She kept you?”

Elena nodded slowly.

“She told everyone I ran away.”

Her voice trembled.

“She told you I abandoned you.”

Alejandro closed his eyes.

Because he remembered.

The day Elena vanished.

The police report.

The empty closet.

The missing car.

The note they found.

A simple message:

“I need to leave. Please don't look for me.”

For three years, Alejandro had believed Elena wrote that note.

Now he understood.

Someone forced her.

“Where was it?” he asked.

Elena looked toward the upper floor.

Her eyes moved toward the east wing.

The part of the mansion that had been closed for years.

“The old guest room.”

Alejandro's blood turned cold.

That room.

Nobody entered it.

Vivian had told him it was damaged.

Unsafe.

A place that needed renovation.

A place he never questioned.

Because he trusted her.

Alejandro looked at the staircase.

Then at his security chief standing near the entrance.

“Open the east wing.”

The man immediately moved.

Vivian stepped forward.

“No.”

The command surprised everyone.

Alejandro slowly looked at her.

“No?”

Vivian realized her mistake.

She tried to recover.

“I mean... there is no reason to do this.”

Alejandro smiled.

But there was no warmth.

Only danger.

“You're right.”

He nodded.

“There is no reason.”

A pause.

“Unless you're hiding something.”

Within minutes, the locked doors of the east wing were opened.

The hallway beyond was dark.

Dust covered the floor.

But Alejandro noticed something.

The locks were new.

The room wasn't abandoned.

Someone had been maintaining it.

He walked inside.

Elena followed slowly.

Every step seemed painful.

Memories returned.

The smell.

The walls.

The place where she had spent years believing nobody would ever find her.

Alejandro entered the old guest room.

And stopped.

His entire body went still.

Because the room wasn't a guest room.

Not anymore.

There was a small bed.

A table.

A bucket.

A camera in the corner.

The air disappeared from his lungs.

A prison.

His wife's prison.

Behind him, Elena covered her mouth.

She had returned to the place where she lost three years of her life.

Alejandro walked toward the camera.

His hands trembled.

Not from fear.

From rage.

“Vivian.”

His voice was quiet.

Too quiet.

Everyone knew that was more dangerous.

Vivian stood at the doorway.

Her face had lost all color.

“You don't understand.”

Alejandro turned.

“Then explain.”

No answer.

“Explain why my wife was locked in a room inside my house.”

Silence.

“Explain why nobody knew.”

Silence.

“Explain why she was wearing a maid uniform.”

Vivian finally broke.

“She was supposed to disappear!”

The words exploded from her mouth.

Everyone froze.

Vivian realized what she had admitted.

But it was too late.

Alejandro stared at her.

Not with anger anymore.

With disgust.

“You planned this.”

Vivian's breathing became unstable.

“I loved you.”

Alejandro looked confused.

“What?”

“I loved you!”

Her voice became louder.

“I spent years standing beside you. Supporting you. Helping you build everything!”

She pointed at Elena.

“And then she came back and took everything from me!”

Elena looked at her with disbelief.

“I was your friend.”

Vivian laughed bitterly.

“No.”

She stepped forward.

“You were the woman who had everything without even trying.”

Alejandro shook his head slowly.

“You destroyed my wife because you wanted her life.”

Vivian's eyes filled with hatred.

“I deserved it more.”

The words hung in the air.

Alejandro stared at the woman he once trusted.

And finally understood.

Some monsters didn't look dangerous.

Some monsters smiled.

Some monsters offered help.

Some monsters stood beside you while destroying everything you loved.

He turned away from Vivian.

Then he walked toward Elena.

This time, he moved slowly.

Giving her the choice.

Elena looked at him.

And after a moment...

She reached for his hand.

The smallest gesture.

But to Alejandro, it meant everything.

Because after three years of darkness...

His wife was finally choosing to come home.

He held her hand carefully.

“I swear to you,” he whispered.

“I will spend the rest of my life making sure nobody ever hurts you again.”

Elena closed her eyes.

And for the first time in three years...

She believed someone was telling the truth.

Outside the room, police sirens began approaching the mansion.

Vivian heard them.

Her face changed.

“What did you do?”

Alejandro looked at her.

“I stopped protecting a liar.”

The doors opened.

Officers entered.

And as Vivian Moretti was finally surrounded by the consequences of her own cruelty...

Alejandro Castillo held the hand of the woman he thought he had lost forever.

But he didn't know yet...

That Vivian had one final secret.

A secret powerful enough to destroy everything.

Because Elena's disappearance three years ago...

Was not only about jealousy.

May you like

It was about something much bigger.

Something buried deeper than the walls of the mansion itself.
