Chapter 3 - The Hospital Confrontation

The heavy oak doors of the maternity ward swung open with a bang at 4:00 p.m. Daniel Vale strode down the corridor, his expensive suit wrinkled from a commercial coach flight, his eyes bloodshot, and his knuckles white as he clutched a leather portfolio.
Two security guards stationed outside Elena’s suite stepped forward, their arms crossed.
"Out of my way," Daniel demanded, his voice echoing through the quiet hallway. "I am her husband!"
"Mr. Vale," the taller guard said calmly. "Mrs. Vale has limited her visitation list. You are not on it."
"This is absurd! She is my wife! These are my children!" Daniel shouted, shoving his way past the guard's shoulder.
"Let him in," Elena’s voice called out from inside the suite.
, The guards hesitated, then stepped aside. Daniel shoved the door open and slammed it shut behind him.
The room was quiet. Elena sat near the large window in an armchair, fully dressed in a tailored cream sweater and trousers, her hair neatly bound back. She looked pale, but her posture was straight, commanding, and unnervingly composed. Beside her stood Marcus Vance, calmly reviewing a stack of legal documents.
"What is the meaning of this madness, Elena?" Daniel yelled, marching toward her. "You froze my corporate cards? You locked me out of headquarters? Have you lost your mind?"
Elena didn't flinch. She didn't even turn her head fully toward him, keeping her gaze on the dreary autumn sky outside.
"You left four days ago, Daniel," she said quietly. "I was hemorrhaging on an operating table while you turned off your phone to cut a birthday cake with Celeste Arden."
"We were securing an investor deal!" Daniel shouted, waving his arms wildly. "I was doing it for our future! For the company!"
"The company belongs to my grandfather's trust, Daniel," Elena said, finally turning to look him dead in the eye. "Not you. You were merely an appointed managing executive—a position contingent upon your integrity, loyalty, and compliance with the Vale family trust charter."
"I built Vale Meridian into a luxury empire!" Daniel roared, stepping closer, but Marcus Vance instantly stepped between them, placing a firm hand on the desk.
"Mr. Vale, step back," Marcus warned smoothly. "Any aggressive physical posture will result in your immediate removal by hospital security and an instant filing for a temporary restraining order."
Daniel sneered at the lawyer, but took a forced step back. "Elena, stop playing these ridiculous games. You think you can manage a billion-dollar holding firm from a hospital bed? You're an accountant who hasn't worked in a real office for half a decade! You're emotional, you're sick, and you're letting spite ruin everything I've built!"
"You didn't build it, Daniel," Elena replied, her voice smooth and cold as glass. "You spent four years siphoning funds from our core logistics accounts into shell companies registered in the Cayman Islands under Celeste’s brother's name. You diverted forty million dollars meant for the Manhattan hotel renovation into Celeste’s art foundation. Did you really think I didn't see the ledgers?"
Daniel’s breath hitched. For a fraction of a second, horror flashed across his face before he masked it with defiance. "Those were legitimate consultancy fees—"
"They were grand larceny," Marcus Vance interrupted, sliding a thick file across the small coffee table. "We have the bank routing numbers, the forged approval stamps bearing Mrs. Vale's signature, and the encrypted messages between you and Miss Arden detailing how you intended to bankrupt the Vale main trust before filing for divorce next spring."
Daniel stared at the file, his throat suddenly bone-dry.
"You thought I was stupid," Elena said softly, her eyes piercing through him. "You thought because I stayed quiet while you insulted me at dinner parties, because I smiled and let you take credit for my financial strategies, that I was helpless. I wasn't helpless, Daniel. I was gathering evidence."
"Elena... listen to me," Daniel said, his voice suddenly shifting, dropping the anger and adopting the smooth, persuasive tone he had used to manipulate her for years. He took a slow step forward, softening his eyes. "We... we have three newborn children. You can't destroy their father's reputation. Think of Clara, Grace, and Leo. What happens to them if their father is embroiled in a public scandal?"
Elena looked at him, and for the first time, a small, sad smile touched her lips.
"They will have a mother who protected them," she said. "And they will have an estate that is entirely free of a parasite."
She reached for her pen and signed the final paper in front of Marcus.
"You have two hours to clear your personal belongings out of the townhouse, Daniel," Marcus Vance stated, looking at his watch. "The locks are being changed as we speak. If you attempt to access any Vale Meridian property after 6:00 p.m., you will be arrested for trespassing."
"You can't do this!" Daniel yelled, his face turning red again as he realized the charm was failing. "I will sue you for custody! I will take those children away from you! You're mentally unstable!"

"Try it," Elena whispered, her eyes flashing with a fierce, terrifying light that made Daniel step back again. "Bring your lifestyle, your mistress, your empty bank accounts, and your fraud charges into a family court. See who the judge believes."
She turned back to the window, dismissing him entirely. "Get him out of my sight, Marcus."
