Chapter 10 - The Breath of Life

That evening, as the sun set over the horizon, painting the sky in breathtaking strokes of violet, crimson, and bright gold, we returned home to the estate.

The grand house was quiet, peaceful, and filled with the warm, comforting scent of fresh jasmine and home-cooked dinner.

After putting Rosie to bed following a joyful evening of celebration, I walked out onto the stone balcony of my master bedroom suite, leaning against the white marble railing, looking out over the tranquil, moonlit gardens.

The cool evening breeze blew softly through my hair. I closed my eyes, took a long, deep, effortless breath of fresh night air, and let it out slowly.

For seven years, I had lived in a quiet prison, holding my breath, walking on eggshells, terrified of making a mistake, letting a cruel man convince me that I was weak, helpless, and worthless.

It took the scariest night of my life—standing beside my daughter's ICU bed while her oxygen alarm screamed—to finally realize that I held the power all along.

A pair of warm arms wrapped gently around my waist from behind. Julian rested his chin softly on my shoulder, hugging me close against his warm chest.

"What are you thinking about, my chairwoman?" Julian whispered playfully into my ear.

I smiled, turning around in his arms, resting my hands against his chest, looking up into his kind, loving eyes.

"I was thinking about how sweet it feels to breathe," I whispered softly.

Julian smiled, leaning down to press a warm, tender kiss to my forehead. "You gave your daughter life, Grace. You saved your father's legacy. And you built a home where we can all breathe free."

Hand in hand, we stood together on the balcony, watching the stars shine brightly over the peaceful estate—a mother, a protector, and a woman who had finally reclaimed her voice, her power, and her unbroken future.
