Chapter 10 - The Legacy of Light

Late that evening, after the dinner had ended and the guests had retired to their rooms, the mansion settled into a deep, peaceful quiet.
Lorenzo walked softly down the second-floor hallway, his footsteps silent against the plush runners.
He stopped at the door of Isabella’s bedroom, pushing it open a few inches.
A soft nightlight illuminated the room in a gentle, warm blue glow.
Isabella was tucked beneath her floral duvet, fast asleep, holding her small stuffed bear. On the bedside table sat the walnut music box Joseph Miller had carved—its lid slightly open, resting quietly after playing its final lullaby of the evening.
In the adjoining room, through an open connecting door, Emma was also fast asleep in a small bed, her yellow dress neatly folded over a chair, her hand resting over her mother’s hand as Grace sat quietly beside her, reading a book by the soft light of a reading lamp.
Grace looked up, catching Lorenzo’s eye through the doorway. She offered a quiet, grateful nod.
Lorenzo nodded back, stepping away from the door and closing it gently.
He walked down the grand marble staircase, stepping out onto the wide stone terrace overlooking the dark lawn.
The night sky was brilliant, clear, and vast, filled with millions of burning stars. The cold Atlantic breeze swept through the pine trees surrounding the estate, whispering a quiet song of peace and permanence.
Lorenzo stood at the edge of the stone steps, leaning his hands against the balustrade, looking out over the quiet land he had fought so hard to redeem.
He pulled a small silver pocket watch from his vest—an antique piece that had belonged to his father. He snapped the case open, looking at the inscription carved inside the silver lid:
“A man’s strength is not measured by the fear he creates, but by the peace he protects.”
Lorenzo smiled softly, snapping the watch shut, and slipping it back into his pocket.
The dark days were over. The blood debts were paid. The empire of shadows had been rebuilt into a sanctuary of light.

And as Lorenzo Duca stood beneath the starlit sky of his home, listening to the soft, rhythmic rustle of the leaves in the wind, he knew that his daughter would grow up in a world where a knock at the door brought only friends, where a gift brought only joy, and where the family name stood for honor, protection, and unconditional love.
He turned back toward the house, stepping through the wide French doors into the warm, quiet hallways of his home, closing the doors firmly behind him against the night.
