Chapter 9 - The Transformation

Six months later.

The news of Adrian Vale’s upcoming wedding to Nia Carter shocked the East Coast elite and the underworld alike.

But what shocked them even more was the dramatic transformation of the Vale syndicate.

Under Nia’s gentle but unyielding influence, Adrian began divesting from his high-risk, grey-market logistics operations, transitioning his vast wealth entirely into legitimate real estate, international shipping, and philanthropic foundations.

He established the Carter-Vale Foundation for Child Trauma, donating twenty million dollars to build mental health clinics for underprivileged children across Chicago and New York, with Nia serving as the executive director.

The crime boss had become a philanthropist—not to clean his image, but because the woman he loved had shown him the true power of healing.

It was the morning of the wedding.

The Greenwich estate was adorned with thousands of white orchids, roses, and gold ribbons. A massive, transparent marquee sat on the back lawn, overlooking the blooming gardens.

In the master suite, Nia stood before a full-length mirror, wearing a custom ivory lace gown that cascaded around her like liquid silk. Her dark hair was styled in an elegant updo, accented with delicate diamond pins.

The door opened softly, and Maya walked in, wearing a dusty-rose maid-of-honor dress, holding a bouquet of white peonies.

"Nia," Maya gasped, tears welling up in her eyes. "You look... like a queen."

"I feel like the luckiest woman alive, Maya," Nia smiled, stepping forward to hug her sister tightly. "How are you feeling?"

"My heart has never been stronger," Maya smiled brightly, pressing her hand against her chest. "Thanks to you. And thanks to Adrian."

A knock sounded at the door.

Evan, Caleb, Noah, and Luke walked into the room, dressed in sharp, matching black tuxedos with dusty-rose bowties.

"Nia!" Luke gasped, his eyes wide. "You look pretty!"

"You boys look incredibly handsome," Nia smiled, kneeling down despite her dress to straighten Luke's bowtie.

Evan stepped forward, holding a small velvet box. "Nia... we wanted to give you something before the ceremony."

Nia stood up, surprised. "What's this?"

Evan opened the box. Inside was a gold locket engraved with six initials: A, N, E, C, N, L.

Inside the locket was a photograph taken last month—a photo of all six of them laughing together on the terrace.

"We bought it with our allowance," Caleb said proudly. "So you remember that you're stuck with us forever now."

May you like

Nia wiped a tear from her cheek, her heart melting completely. "I will wear this every single day of my life. Come here, all of you."

She pulled all four boys into a group hug, careful not to wrinkle their tuxedos, holding her sons close to her heart.
