Chapter 8 - The Proposal

Nia’s breath caught in her throat.

Adrian opened the box. Inside, resting on black velvet, was a breathtaking ring—a flawless, emerald-cut diamond surrounded by delicate sapphires, sparkling intensely under the moonlight.

"Adrian..." Nia whispered, her hands flying to her lips.

"I know this isn't traditional," Adrian said, his voice deep, rough, and filled with a rare, beautiful vulnerability. "I know who I am, Nia. I know the world I inhabit is dangerous, complicated, and imperfect. I can't offer you a simple life. But I can offer you a life where you are cherished every single second. A life where you will never fight alone again."

He dropped down onto one knee on the cold stone terrace, taking her right hand in his broad, trembling grip.

"Nia Carter," Adrian said, looking up into her eyes with pure, unadulterated love. "You walked into this house when everyone else ran away. You loved my boys when they were unlovable. You healed my broken heart. Will you marry me, and make this family complete forever?"

Tears of pure, overwhelming joy spilled down Nia’s cheeks.

She looked down at the man kneeling before her—the crime boss who had brought down rival syndicates, but who was now kneeling in humility, offering her his whole world.

"Yes," Nia wept softly, smiling through her tears. "Yes, Adrian! A thousand times yes!"

Adrian let out a breathless laugh, standing up and sliding the ring onto her finger before pulling her into a passionate, powerful embrace, lifting her slightly off her feet.

He kissed her—a deep, burning kiss that sealed their past struggles, their present joy, and their eternal future together.

Suddenly, a series of hushed giggles echoed from behind the French doors leading to the terrace.

Nia and Adrian broke their kiss, looking toward the glass doors.

All four boys—along with Maya—were pressing their faces against the glass, grinning wildly!

Caleb shoved the door open, sprinting onto the terrace. "Did she say yes?! Did she say yes?!"

"She said yes!" Adrian announced, catching Caleb in his arm while wrapping his other arm around Nia’s waist.

Luke, Noah, and Evan rushed out onto the terrace, cheering loudly! Luke threw his arms around Nia’s knees, while Noah hugged her waist.

Evan walked up to Adrian and Nia, looking at the diamond ring on her finger with a bright, proud smile. "It's about time, Dad. We were going to fire you if she said no."

Everyone burst into laughter, their voices ringing out under the starry Connecticut sky—a sound of pure, unbroken family happiness that echoed through the stone walls of the mansion, driving away the last remnants of shadow forever.
