Chapter 3 - The Mask Slips

Victoria didn't look like the elegant, soft-spoken philanthropist Richard had fallen in love with. Her perfect blonde hair was unraveled, cascading wildly around her shoulders. Her silk blouse was torn at the collar, and in her right hand, she clutched a heavy, half-empty bottle of scotch from Richard’s private collection. Her eyes were bloodshot, frantic, and filled with a venomous rage that made her unrecognizable.

"Richard!" she shouted, her voice shrill as she marched down the middle of the street toward them. "Don't listen to those little monsters! They're lying! They broke the greenhouse glass because they're psychotic, just like their mother was! They're trying to ruin our wedding!"

Emily immediately pulled the triplets behind her back, her body acting as a human shield. "Stay away from them, Victoria," Emily said, her voice dropping into a dangerously calm register. "You touch these boys again, and I swear to God, you won't survive the consequences."

"Shut up, you pathetic maid!" Victoria sneered, pointing the heavy glass bottle at Emily. "You're a thief! Richard threw you out! You have no right to speak to me!"

Richard stepped between Victoria and Emily. His stature, usually commanding in the boardroom, was terrifying as he drew himself up to his full height. The fear in his face had transformed into something primal, dark, and absolute.

"Victoria," Richard said, his voice a low, vibrating growl that made even the air feel heavy. "Did you lock my sons in the greenhouse?"

"Richard, darling, no!" Victoria stammered, her confidence faltering for a fraction of a second as she looked into his eyes. "They're fabricating it! They hate me because I want to bring discipline to this house. They're trying to manipulate you. They cut themselves on purpose to get your attention!"

"They are five years old!" Richard roared, the sound echoing through the quiet billionaire enclave, causing several neighbors to peer out of their windows. "They broke industrial safety glass with their bare hands to escape! Look at their arms, Victoria! Look at my sons!"

"They're not your sons, Richard! They're anchor chains keeping you tied to the past!" Victoria snapped, the alcohol and the sudden pressure completely shattering her composure. The elegant facade washed away, revealing the rot beneath. "You spend millions on them while they hold you back from your real potential! We were supposed to go to Paris! We were supposed to build a new life! I wasn't going to let three broken, motherless brats ruin my future!"

Richard didn't answer her with words. He took out his phone, his fingers steady now with an icy, corporate precision. "Marcus," he said into the receiver, calling his chief of security. "Bring the estate detail to the main gate right now. Call the police. Tell the commissioner I am filing charges for attempted kidnapping, child endangerment, aggravated assault on minors, and corporate fraud. And Marcus? Tell them to bring handcuffs."

Victoria’s face drained of color. The scotch bottle slipped from her fingers, shattering on the asphalt between them. "Richard... no, you can't... we're getting married next month..."

"The only place you're going next month, Victoria," Richard whispered, his eyes cold enough to freeze water, "is a state penitentiary."
