Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Light

That evening, a quiet, private celebration was held on the rooftop garden of Blackwood Tower.

The warm summer breeze carried the sweet scent of blooming jasmine and roses across the terrace. The city skyline glinted with thousands of golden lights under a clear twilight sky.

Marcus sat near the outdoor kitchen, patiently showing Jonah how to construct a complex wooden model ship, while Mrs. Gable served fresh lemonade and strawberry tarts to the guests.

At the glass edge of the terrace, looking out over the shining river, stood Julian and Naomi.

Julian wore a simple white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms. His dark hair rustled in the warm breeze. He held a glass of wine in his hand, his left arm wrapped comfortably around Naomi’s waist, pulling her close against his side.

Naomi leaned her head against his shoulder, her fingers intertwined with his.

"It's hard to believe this is the same city," Naomi murmured softly, looking at the peaceful skyline.

"The city didn't change, Naomi," Julian said gently, kissing the top of her head. "We did."

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, exquisite mahogany velvet box.

Naomi froze, her breath catching in her throat as she looked from the box up to Julian’s intense, loving eyes.

"Julian..." she whispered, her heart accelerating.

Julian opened the velvet box.

Inside sat a breathtaking emerald-cut three-carat diamond ring, set upon a delicate band of platinum, glowing under the twilight stars.

He looked down into Naomi's eyes, his voice deep, steady, and filled with a profound, unshakeable devotion.

"Seven years ago, you gave me a second chance at life," Julian whispered softly. "And three months ago, your children brought light back into my dark world. I don't want to just protect your family, Naomi... I want to be your husband. I want to build a life with you, for the rest of our days."

Tears of pure, unadulterated happiness flooded Naomi’s eyes, trailing down her radiant cheeks.

"Yes, Julian," Naomi wept softly, throwing her arms around his neck. "Yes! A thousand times yes!"

Julian slipped the diamond ring onto her finger, pulled her flush against his chest, and kissed her deeply under the vast, starry sky.

Behind them, Pearl and Jonah ran across the grass terrace, cheering in delight, throwing their arms around both of their parents’ legs.

Julian picked up Jonah with his right arm and pulled Pearl close with his left, wrapping his entire family in an unbreakable, warm embrace.

The cold shadow of the Devil of Detroit was gone forever—replaced by the bright, unbroken light of a man who had finally found his way home.
