Chapter 6: The Unbroken Horizon

It has been two years.
Leo just celebrated his ninth birthday. We spent the day at the beach, just the two of us. There were no fake presents, no hollow promises from people who didn't care. Just us, and a small circle of friends who had actually been there during the hardest days.
I am sitting on my porch, watching the sunset. My accounts are secure, my life is mine, and the ghosts of my family's greed have been exorcised.
I realized that the "family helps family" mantra was the most dangerous weapon they ever used against me. But they forgot one thing: I am the one who built this life. I am the one who saved my son. I am the one who stood up when I was at my lowest.
I don't look back at the past with bitterness anymore. I look at it with the clarity of a survivor. I didn't just escape the bank fraud or the fake GoFundMe; I escaped a cycle of abuse that was meant to break me.

Leo runs up to me, out of breath and beaming. "Mom, can we go to London next summer?"
I smile, pulling him into a hug. The world is wide, the future is bright, and for the first time in my life, there is nothing standing between us and our happiness. I am whole, I am enough, and I am finally, truly, free.
