Chapter 9 - The Promise of the Sea

Six months later.

The Atlantic Ocean sparkled like a field of crushed diamonds beneath the bright spring sun.

On the high cliffs behind the Rossi estate, a small, beautiful marble gazebo had been built, surrounded by hundreds of blooming white roses and pink lilies—a garden built in memory of lost loved ones, but dedicated to the living.

Standing inside the gazebo was Lorenzo Rossi, looking sharp and handsome in a dark grey bespoke suit. Beside him stood Marco, wearing a tuxedo, smiling warmly as guests filled the wooden chairs set up on the lawn.

Over two hundred guests had gathered—not rival mafia dons or ruthless syndicate bosses, but community leaders, charity directors, and staff members from the Rossi Foundation for Children, which Lorenzo had established four months ago.

The music began to play—a soft, beautiful melody played by a string quartet.

Down the stone pathway leading from the mansion, Hunter walked slowly toward the gazebo.

She wore a breathtaking white silk wedding gown that flowed gently around her ankles, featuring delicate lace details across the shoulders. Her hair was styled in soft waves, adorned with a simple wreath of fresh white roses.

Walking beside her, holding her hand with absolute pride, was nine-month-old Leo.

He was walking! His small feet, clad in tiny white leather shoes, took steady, confident steps across the green grass. He wore a miniature matching grey suit, his dark hair neatly combed, smiling brightly at the clapping guests.

When Hunter reached the gazebo, Lorenzo stepped down, taking her hand into his.

He looked at his wife-to-be, his eyes shining with an intense, overwhelming devotion.

"You look breathtaking," Lorenzo whispered softly.

"You don't look too bad yourself, Don Rossi," Hunter teased, her eyes sparkling with happiness.

The priest raised his hands, blessing the couple as they exchanged their vows.

"Do you, Lorenzo Rossi," the priest asked, "take Hunter Higgins to be your wedded wife, to love and to cherish, in sickness and in health, in wealth and in poverty, for as long as you both shall live?"

Lorenzo looked deeply into Hunter’s hazel eyes. "I do. With all my heart and all my soul."

"And do you, Hunter Higgins," the priest continued, "take Lorenzo Rossi to be your wedded husband?"

"I do," Hunter answered without a second of hesitation.

"By the power vested in me," the priest announced, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride!"

Lorenzo pulled Hunter into his arms, dipping her slightly as he pressed his lips against hers in a passionate, joyful kiss that drew thunderous applause and cheers from the entire crowd.

Leo clapped his tiny hands together, letting out a happy squeal, jumping up and down beside them.

Lorenzo picked up his son, wrapping his arm securely around Hunter’s waist, standing together before their friends and family as a complete, unbroken family.
