Chapter 7 - The Final Confrontation

At 1:45 PM, two unmarked black SUVs were parked a block away from the house on Elm Street, filled with federal agents wearing tactical vests.

Inside the house, four plainclothes FBI agents were positioned discreetly near the back entrance and garage. Delilah sat at the dining room table—the same table where Brenda had threatened her three nights ago—wearing a small, hidden microphone concealed beneath her sweater collar.

I sat in an unmarked sedan parked two doors down, wearing an earpiece, listening to the live audio feed alongside Federal Agent Miller.

At 2:01 PM, a beat-up rental sedan pulled into the driveway.

Evan stepped out, dressed in crumpled clothes, looking frantic, unkempt, and desperate. His hair was greasy, and his eyes darted around the quiet neighborhood street like a feral animal searching for an escape route.

He opened the front door using a crowbar he had brought from his trunk, smashing through the new lock Hank had installed.

"Delilah!" Evan’s voice echoed through the house audio feed, sharp and venomous. "Delilah, where are you?!"

"In the dining room, Evan," Delilah’s voice came through my earpiece, shockingly cool and composed.

Evan stormed into the dining room, slamming a manila folder onto the table.

"You think you're clever, don't you?!" Evan spat out, his breathing heavy and ragged. "You had your mother call the police! You had my bank accounts frozen! Do you have any idea what you've done, Delilah?!"

"I know what you've done, Evan," Delilah replied, remaining seated, looking up at him without flinching. "I know about the Cayman Islands accounts. I know about the forged deed. And I know about the two-million-dollar life insurance policy."

Evan’s eyes widened in sudden, terrifying rage. He stepped toward her, raising a trembling hand.

"You stupid bitch!" Evan screamed. "You ruined everything! That money was mine! My mother and I built that plan for three years! You were supposed to sign the custody papers and go away quietly!"

"And if I didn't?" Delilah asked, her voice steady. "What were you going to do to me, Evan?"

"You would have had an accident!" Evan roared, completely losing control of his sanity. "A fatal car crash! A pill overdose! I don't care! I gave you five years of my life, and you gave me nothing! You're going to call your lawyer right now and unfreeze those accounts, or I swear to God I will make sure you never see Noah again!"

That was all the federal agents needed to hear.

"Move, move, move!" Agent Miller shouted into his radio beside me.
