Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable Foundation

A year after that fateful night in the parking lot, the house on Elm Street was filled with light, music, and the delicious scent of a Thanksgiving feast.
Family and close friends filled the dining room—the same room where Evan had once tried to destroy Delilah's life. Now, it was decorated with autumn leaves, glowing candles, and laughter.
Clara, my sweet neighbor, was helping Noah place a roasted turkey on the center of the table, while Victoria Vance sat in the living room enjoying a glass of red wine, chatting warmly with Delilah’s fellow teachers.
Delilah stood at the head of the table, tapping her glass with a spoon.
The room went quiet as everyone turned toward her.
"Thank you, everyone, for being here tonight," Delilah began, her voice clear, confident, and full of warmth. "A year ago, I thought my life was over. I thought I had lost my home, my career, and my dignity."
She looked down at Noah, who was smiling up at her with his bright blue eyes, holding his stuffed dinosaur under one arm.
"But I learned that home isn't a place that can be stolen from you by cruel people," Delilah continued, her gaze turning toward me, sitting at the foot of the table. "Home is built on truth. It’s built on love, courage, and the people who stand by you when the rest of the world turns dark."
Delilah raised her glass. "To family. To new beginnings. And to never looking back."
"To family!" the room echoed in unison, raising their glasses high.
After dinner, when the guests had departed and Noah was fast asleep in his bedroom under a soft blue blanket, Delilah and I sat together on the front porch steps, watching the crisp autumn leaves drift down from the maple trees onto the quiet street.
I pulled my wool shawl tighter around my shoulders, looking over at my daughter.
She looked radiant, strong, and completely unshakeable—a woman who had walked through the fires of hell and come out the other side made of pure gold.
"Mom?" Delilah asked softly, leaning her head against my shoulder.
"Yes, sweetheart?"
"Thank you for finding me."

I wrapped my arm around her, kissing the top of her head as the cool night breeze rustled the leaves above us.
"I'll always find you, Delilah," I whispered into the quiet night. "Always."
