Chapter 9 - The Grand Reopening

Six months later.
The summer sun shone brightly over the South Side of Chicago. A crowd of neighborhood residents, city leaders, mechanics, and friends gathered outside the newly renovated Callahan’s Auto & Youth Center.
The dilapidated garage had been completely rebuilt into a state-of-the-art auto repair facility and vocational training center for local youth, funded entirely by the Steel Foundation.
A massive new sign hung above the bay doors, featuring a painted image of a vintage red car and a golden cross.
Seven-year-old Owen stood on a wooden box near the ribbon, wearing a tiny mechanic’s jumpsuit with his name embroidered over the pocket, while Lily stood beside him holding giant golden scissors.
Riker stood behind them, dressed casually in a dark polo shirt, his arms wrapped warmly around their shoulders.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” Riker addressed the cheering crowd. “Seven years ago, a hero named Thomas Callahan saved my life in this neighborhood. He didn't ask for money or fame. He only asked that I do right by the world.”
Riker looked down at Owen and Lily, his heart filled with overwhelming pride.
“Today, we honor his memory by opening this center—a place where his children will one day lead the next generation,” Riker declared. “Owen, Lily... cut the ribbon!”
Together, the twins snipped the bright red ribbon. The crowd exploded into cheers, balloons were released into the blue sky, and live acoustic music began to play.
Marco and Anton walked over, carrying a massive custom workbench crafted from dark oak for Owen’s new toy repair set.

“Looks like you’ve gone soft, boss,” Marco joked warmly, watching Owen happily inspect his new tools.
“No, Marco,” Riker smiled, watching Lily hand homemade cupcakes to the neighborhood kids. “I just finally found something worth fighting for.”
