Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Horizon

One year later.
The sun was setting over the private harbor at the Indiana dunes estate, painting the sky in breathtaking strokes of violet, crimson, and gold.
The estate had been completely transformed. The dark, cold fortress was now filled with light, music, and the laughter of friends and family. The Thomas Marlowe Foundation for Law Enforcement Integrity—established by Roman and me—had already funded fifty independent investigative grants across the country.
I stood on the wide wooden deck overlooking the crashing waves, wearing an elegant cream silk dress.

"To the future," Roman said, clinking his glass against mine.
"To the truth," I replied, taking a sip of the sweet wine.
Down on the shore, Nico and Mateo were setting up lanterns along the pier for the evening foundation dinner. My mother sat on the porch bench nearby, smiling brightly as she talked with Judge Sarah Lawson about the upcoming memorial gala.
For the first time in my life, the weight in my chest was completely gone. The ghosts of the past were finally at peace, replaced by the solid, unshakable foundation of a love forged in fire, survival, and absolute trust.
Roman wrapped his arm around my shoulders, drawing me close against his side as the first stars began to twinkle over Lake Michigan.
"Are you coming into the shower with me?" Roman whispered in my ear, his voice dripping with playful, dangerous warmth.

I looked up at my husband, laughing softly as I set my champagne glass down on the deck railing.
"Only if you promise not to bleed on my clean floor, Boss," I smiled, taking his hand as we walked back into our home together, leaving the darkness of the past behind us forever.
