Chapter 9 - The Return to New York

Six months later.

The sun shone brightly over the Manhattan skyline. The chaotic, dark rumors that had plagued the Moretti family for years had finally vanished, replaced by news of massive charitable foundations and new commercial developments.

At the top of the Moretti Tower in Midtown, the grand penthouse suite was filled with warm sunlight, high-end white furniture, and colorful toys scattered neatly near the balcony windows.

I stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling glass window, adjusting my silk tie. I looked different. The cold, lethal edge that used to define my expression had softened into the quiet, confident calm of a fulfilled man.

"Luca, you're going to be late," Elena’s voice called out from the hallway.

She walked into the room wearing a stunning floral summer dress, her dark hair pinned back elegantly. She looked radiant, healthy, and deeply happy.

I stepped up to her, wrapping my arms around her waist, pulling her close for a soft, passionate kiss that left her blushing.

"The board can wait ten minutes," I murmured against her lips.

"They've been waiting six years for you to smile like that," Elena teased gently, wrapping her arms around my neck.

"Daddy! Look!"

Lila came running into the room, wearing a neat navy blue school uniform with a yellow cardigan over it—her first day of first grade at the prestigious Manhattan Academy. She was holding a large drawing she had made in art class that morning.

I dropped to one knee, taking the drawing from her hands.

It was a painting of a large, beautiful house surrounded by trees, with three people and a golden dog standing in the garden under a bright sun.

"It's us," Lila announced proudly. "My teacher said it's the prettiest family drawing in the class."

"Your teacher is right," I said, my heart swelling with pride. I looked at Elena, then back at our daughter. "It's perfect."

Paul stepped into the foyer of the penthouse, holding a tablet, wearing a neat suit with a warm smile on his face.

"The car is ready downstairs, Don Luca," Paul reported. "And the school principal is waiting to welcome Miss Lila personally."

"Let's go," I said, standing up and taking Lila's small hand in my left hand while holding Elena's hand in my right.
