Chapter 7 - The Reckoning

The hallway erupted into violence. The second mercenary raised a stun baton, lunging at Hadrian. Hadrian stepped inside the guard's reach, catching the man's wrist, twisting it until the bone cracked, and disarming him in a single fluid motion. He slammed the operative into the wall, dropping him cold onto the carpet.

Down below, the double doors of the foyer were kicked open with a deafening crash. Tactical police units and Marcus’s security team flooded the lower level, flashbangs blinding the remaining intruder outside.

Within three minutes, the house was secured. Sirens blared in the driveway as tactical officers dragged the hired mercenaries out into the rain in zip-ties.

Hadrian threw the steel bar aside, breathing heavily as he ran up the stairs to Sorrel’s bedroom.

"Sorrel!" he called out, his voice laced with rare panic. "Sorrel, it's Daddy! It's safe!"

The closet door opened slowly. Sorrel peeked out, holding her small flashlight. When she saw her father standing there, unhurt, she ran out and threw her arms around his waist. Hadrian dropped to his knees, wrapping his arms around her tightly, lifting her into the air.

"You came back," she sobbed into his shoulder. "You really came back."

"I will always come back for you," Hadrian promised, kissing her hair as the red and blue emergency lights danced across the room. "Always."

Outside, miles away, federal agents breached Arthur Vance’s penthouse suite. Trapped, ruined, and facing decades in federal prison for attempted kidnapping, corporate espionage, and bribery, Arthur surrendered without firing a shot. The Vance family line of tyranny had officially crumbled.
