Chapter 8 - The Verdict of Light

The sentencing took less than two hours.

Dominic March was sentenced to Life in Prison without the possibility of parole for attempted murder, racketeering, and corporate fraud.

Selene March received twenty-five years in federal prison for conspiracy and financial extortion.

As the bailiffs led Dominic away in heavy chains, he turned toward Adrian Vale, his face dark with rage. “You think you’ve won, Vale? You’re soft! You let a maid soft-hearted little girl run your empire! You’ll never last!”

Adrian stood up slowly, adjusting his dark suit jacket. He looked down at Dominic with cold, absolute superiority.

“I didn't become soft, Dominic,” Adrian said softly, his voice echoing through the quiet courtroom. “I found something worth protecting. That makes a man far more dangerous than greed ever made you.”

Dominic was dragged out through the heavy doors, his angry shouts fading into the long corridors outside.

When we exited the courthouse, the afternoon sun was blazing brightly overhead. The media reporters surrounded the steps, but Adrian’s security team kept them at a respectful distance.

Julianna held Clara’s hand tightly as they walked down the steps, laughing as the sea breeze blew her dark hair across her face.

“Where are we going now, Daddy?” Julianna asked, looking up at Adrian.

Adrian looked at Clara, his eyes filled with a deep, radiant warmth. “We’re going home. But first... we have one more stop to make.”

He led them to a grand black limousine parked at the curb. The driver opened the door, and they drove away from the courthouse, leaving the dark past behind them forever.

The car stopped twenty minutes later in front of a beautiful, historic brownstone building near the city park. A brand-new painted sign hung above the grand double doors:

The Rowan-Vale Children’s Medical Center & Rehabilitation Clinic.

Clara stared at the sign, her hands flying to her mouth in utter shock. “Adrian... what is this?”

“It’s yours,” Adrian said gently, taking her hand as they stepped out of the car. “A fully funded medical clinic dedicated to providing free, expert healthcare to poor children and families who can't afford high-priced doctors. Named after your grandmother’s family, and managed by a board of certified, honest physicians under your direction.”

Clara turned to him, tears streaming down her face. “You did this... for me?”

“You showed this city that true healing doesn't come from expensive titles or dark secrets,” Adrian whispered, stepping close to her and wiping a tear from her cheek with his thumb. “It comes from compassion. I want your light to reach thousands of children who are locked in the dark, just like Julianna was.”

Julianna hugged Clara’s waist tightly. “And I’m going to be the official junior ambassador! I get my own desk!”

Clara burst into a laugh that was half a sob, wrapping her arms around both of them under the warm afternoon sun.
