Chapter 10 - The Empire of Light

Six months later, the spring thaw brought new life to the Marchetti estate. The gardens bloomed with red tulips and white hydrangeas, and the black cars that rolled through the iron gates carried real estate developers, municipal officials, and legitimate business partners rather than gunrunners and enforcers.
Dante Marchetti was in the process of transitioning the syndicate’s massive capital reserves entirely into legal real estate and port logistics infrastructure. The violent underworld of New Jersey was reorganizing under new, less brutal leadership, while Dante stepped back into the role of a legitimate patriarch and industrialist.
In the sunlit east wing study, Sienna sat at the executive desk, now officially designated as Chief of Staff for the Marchetti Holdings corporation.
The door opened, and Silas Vance walked in, carrying a thick binder of property acquisitions in Manhattan.
"Morning, boss lady," Silas grinned, dropping the binder onto her desk. "Dante wants these signed before his meeting with the city zoning commissioner at ten."
"Thanks, Silas," Sienna smiled, signing her initials at the bottom of the first document with a sleek silver fountain pen. "How is the transition of the Newark warehouses going?"
"Smoothly," Silas said, leaning against the edge of her desk. "The old captains are falling in line. Turns out, when you offer them legitimate equity in commercial real estate instead of forcing them to dodge federal indictments, even hardened criminals appreciate a 401(k)."
"Dante’s influence," Sienna said proudly.
"No," Silas corrected her, his eyes softening. "Dante’s redemption. And you're the one who dragged him out of the dark."
Before Sienna could reply, the door opened again, and Dante walked in. He wore a sharp navy blue suit, his tie neatly knotted, looking every bit the billionaire industrialist he had transformed into. But when his eyes landed on Sienna, the cold, dangerous edge of the Marchetti boss melted into something warm and entirely devoted.
"Are you flirting with my chief of staff, Silas?" Dante asked lazily, walking over to Sienna's desk and placing a warm hand on the small of her back.
"Just reminding her who keeps the paperwork organized while you play corporate mogul," Silas laughed, walking toward the door. "I'll leave you two to your... administrative duties."
As the door clicked shut behind Silas, Dante leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to Sienna's cheek before resting his chin on her shoulder as she looked down at the legal documents.
"Everything signed?" he murmured against her neck.
"Everything," she whispered, turning her head to kiss him properly.

Downstairs, the heavy iron gates of the estate swung open for a delivery truck carrying fresh flowers for the gardens. The Marchetti name still commanded fear across the city, but inside these walls, the mausoleum was gone.
The darkness that had once ruled the estate had been driven out by a quiet, unbreakable light—proving that even in an empire built on blood and shadows, love could carve out a sanctuary.
