Chapter 10 - Home at Last

Six months later, on a warm, sunny Saturday afternoon, our estate grounds were filled with laughter, colorful balloons, and the joyous sounds of family and friends. It was Leo and Maya’s second birthday.
The twins were running across the lush green lawn, their small legs moving with boundless energy. Leo had my messy dark hair and my crooked smile, while Maya had her mother’s brilliant, expressive eyes and gentle spirit.
Winston Perry and Marcus Sterling stood near the outdoor grill, laughing and sharing stories, while children’s music played softly across the patio. Everything felt peaceful, real, and anchored in truth.
I walked up behind Josephine as she leaned against the wooden garden fence, watching the children play. I wrapped my arms around her waist and rested my chin gently on her shoulder.
"Happy?" I whispered into her ear.
She leaned back against my chest, her fingers weaving through mine. "More than happy, Bennett. I feel safe. I feel whole."
"Look at them," I said softly, watching Leo chase a butterfly while Maya giggled hysterically beside him. "They survived all of it because you were strong enough to keep them alive."
"We survived it together," Josephine corrected softly, turning in my arms to face me. She reached up, adjusting the collar of my shirt, her eyes shining with warmth and absolute forgiveness. "The past is gone, Bennett. This is our home. This is our family."

I leaned down and kissed her—a deep, meaningful kiss that carried no lingering regret, only the promise of an unbroken future.
As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the garden and the sound of our children's laughter filled the air, I knew that the dark night of suspicion was finally over. We had come through the storm, and we were home at last.
