Chapter 10 - The Foundation of Forever

One year later, on a perfect sunny afternoon in late May, the grounds of the Darien estate were filled with life, love, and laughter once again.

This time, there were no false pretenses, no high-society deceptions, and no hidden agendas.

A small, elegant white altar was set up on the lawn near the edge of the water, surrounded by fifty of our closest friends, family members, doctors from Harrington Health Systems, and families from the foundation.

I walked down the aisle on my grandfather’s arm.

He walked slowly, leaning lightly on his silver cane, his eyes overflowing with tears of happiness as he looked at me in my simple, breathtaking ivory lace gown.

"You look so much like your mother today, Allison," Walter whispered, his voice trembling with emotion. "She would be so proud of the kingdom you built from the ashes."

"We built it together, Grandfather," I whispered back, squeezing his arm tight.

Standing at the altar, looking sharp in a classic black tuxedo, was Gabriel. Next to him stood seven-year-old Caleb, wearing a matching tuxedo, serving as Gabriel’s best man, holding the velvet ring pillow with intense, hilarious concentration.

When my grandfather placed my hand into Gabriel’s, Gabriel took my fingers gently, leaning in to whisper, "You take my breath away, Allison."

The minister spoke warm, beautiful words about resilience, truth, and the quiet power of true love.

When it came time for our vows, Gabriel looked directly into my eyes.

"Allison," Gabriel spoke clearly, his voice carrying over the soft ocean breeze. "I promise to love you, honor you, and respect your brilliance every day of my life. I promise to be a pillar of strength for Caleb, a true partner in your work, and a safe harbor for your heart. With this ring, I give you my past, my present, and my forever."

I held his hand tightly, feeling the smooth platinum band resting against his skin.

"Gabriel," I said, my voice filled with unshakeable strength and joy. "You came into my life not to save me, but to stand beside me while I saved myself. You showed me that real love doesn't isolate—it frees. I promise to stand by you, build with you, and love you with all that I am, for all the days of our lives."

We exchanged rings.

"By the power vested in me," the minister declared with a broad smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife! Gabriel, you may kiss your bride!"

Gabriel pulled me into his arms, dipping me slightly as he kissed me passionately, while our guests erupted into cheering, clapping, and joyful tears.

Caleb jumped up and down, waving his hands in the air. "Yeah! We’re a family now!"

At the reception that evening, under a grand marquee glowing with thousands of fairy lights, the music played late into the night.

I stood on the edge of the terrace with Gabriel, wrapped in his coat, holding a glass of champagne, watching Caleb dance with his grandfather on the lawn below.

The estate—the fifty-thousand-square-foot home that had once been the center of a cruel betrayal—was now filled with true warmth, deep laughter, and a family that could never be broken.

I leaned my head against Gabriel’s shoulder, looking out at the endless horizon of the sea glowing under the silver moonlight.

My grandfather’s words from that rainy day in Albany echoed softly in my mind: “Do not warn anyone. Go there and see the property for yourself.”

I had seen the property. I had reclaimed my ground.

And standing here, surrounded by the people who loved me for who I truly was, I knew that my life was no longer a story written by someone else's greed.

It was my empire. And its foundation was built forever.
