Chapter 10 - The Foundation of Forever

The ceremony took place on the glass terrace overlooking the bay.
Seventy guests—our real friends, my loving family, and Julian’s warm, welcoming relatives—filled the wooden chairs arranged in a circle around the altar.
There was no chaos. There were no missing boutonnieres.
When my mother walked me down the aisle toward Julian, the orchestra played a sweeping, joyful melody that carried out over the sparkling blue water.
Julian stepped forward to take my hand, his grip warm, firm, and entirely solid.
When the minister spoke the words—"Do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?"—my answer didn't come from a sense of duty, or habit, or time spent together.
It came from a place of absolute choice.
"I do," I said clearly, my voice ringing out across the quiet water.
And when Julian slipped the rose gold band onto my finger, I felt the final, total completion of a journey that had begun on a dusty construction road a year ago.
I hadn't just survived being abandoned. I had dismantled the lie that I was only valuable when I was suffering in silence. I had taken back my money, my self-respect, my future, and my voice.
The reception was a joyous celebration of music, incredible food from my mother’s bakery, and warm toasts that lasted long into the night.
At midnight, as the stars burned brightly over the quiet bay, Julian and I stood on the outer balcony of the pavilion, watching the gentle tide lap against the stone foundation below.
Julian wrapped his arms around me from behind, resting his chin gently on my shoulder, pulling me back against his chest.
"Happy, Mrs. Croft?" he whispered into my hair.
I leaned back against him, feeling the steady, powerful rhythm of his heartbeat against my back, holding his hands wrapped securely over mine.
I looked down at the gold band shining on my finger under the moonlight, then out at the dark, beautiful horizon of the sea.

"I’m home, Julian," I whispered, turning my face to kiss his cheek. "I’m finally home."
And as the ocean breeze blew softly around us, carrying the music from inside the pavilion out into the clear night air, I knew that no matter what storms the future might bring, my foundation would never shake again.
