Chapter 8 - THE CHRISTENING

Two months later, under the bright Texas sun, the historic St. Thomas Chapel on the outskirts of Dallas was filled with white roses, soft organ music, and warm candlelight.
It was the day of Lucas Vance’s official christening and dedication ceremony.
Unlike the high-stakes, dramatic events of the past year, today was an occasion of pure joy, warmth, and family. Over a hundred close friends, business partners who had proven their loyalty, and dedicated company employees gathered inside the beautifully decorated chapel.
Clara stood near the altar, wearing an exquisite ivory silk dress that complemented her graceful posture. Beside her stood Julian, looking impeccably handsome in a tailored navy suit. In Clara's arms, nine-month-old Lucas wore a classic white heirloom christening gown—the very gown that Eleanor Sterling had saved for Clara’s future child decades ago.
The elderly pastor smiled warmly at the couple and the baby.
"Today, we welcome Lucas Vance into a community of faith, love, and light," the pastor’s voice echoed gently through the stone chapel. "A child who enters a world built on love is a child who will grow to change the world."
As the pastor applied the holy water to Lucas’s forehead, the baby didn't cry. Instead, he let out a sweet, musical giggle, reaching his tiny hands up to splash the water, making the entire congregation burst into warm, joyful laughter.
Julian wrapped his arm tightly around Clara's waist, pulling her close. Clara leaned her head against his shoulder, feeling a deep, unshakeable sense of completeness.
Standing near the front row as godparents were Marcus, Julian's trusted advisor, and Sarah, Clara's executive assistant who had proven her loyalty during the company overhaul.
After the ceremony, the guests gathered outside on the lush, green lawns of the chapel estate for an open-air afternoon reception. White marquees were set up across the grass, live string quartets played soft melodies, and children ran freely across the lawn.
Clara walked along the edge of the gardens, holding Lucas, watching Julian converse happily with a group of senior manufacturing managers from the Sterling plants. Julian was laughing, clapping the workers on their shoulders, treating them with the genuine respect and dignity that Arthur Sterling had never possessed.
"He really is an extraordinary man," a soft voice spoke from behind Clara.
Clara turned around and saw Dr. Harrison, the Chief of Surgery from St. Jude’s Hospital, standing there holding a glass of sparkling cider.
"Dr. Harrison," Clara smiled warmly. "I'm so glad you could make it."
"I wouldn't have missed it for the world, Mrs. Vance," Dr. Harrison said, looking down at Lucas with fond memories. "I still remember the day this young young man arrived into the world. That hospital room was filled with so much storm and fury..."
"It was," Clara nodded softly, looking back toward Julian. "It felt like the entire world was trying to break us."
"And yet, look at what you built out of that storm," Dr. Harrison said gently. "You didn't just protect your child, Clara. You saved a company, you protected thousands of workers, and you proved that love is far more powerful than greed."
"I didn't do it alone," Clara said, her eyes shining as Julian glanced across the lawn, caught her eye, and offered her a loving smile. "I had the right man standing by my side."
As the sun began to set, casting long, golden rays across the estate, Julian walked over to Clara and Lucas. He took Lucas into his arms, tossing the baby gently into the air, making Lucas burst into joyous squeals of laughter.
"Ready to go home, my Queen?" Julian asked, offering Clara his hand.
May you like
"Always, my King," Clara replied, taking his hand tightly.
Together, they walked down the stone path toward their future, surrounded by the warmth of genuine love and the unbreakable promise of tomorrow.
