Chapter 10 - The Lavender Christmas

One year later. Christmas Eve.

The grand dining room of The Lavender House was bathed in a breathtaking, magical glow.

A soaring fifteen-foot Christmas tree stood near the stone fireplace, decorated with golden ribbons, glass angels, and handmade ornaments crafted by the children of our culinary academy mothers.

Fifty guests filled the warm room—our academy graduates, staff members, Sarah Mitchell, and close friends who had become our true, chosen family.

Laughter and sweet holiday music echoed through the hall as platters of exquisite roasted duck, truffle mashed potatoes, and fresh berry tarts were served on long wooden tables.

I stood by the grand French doors leading out to the sunroom, wearing a stunning emerald-green evening dress, holding a glass of sparkling cider.

David walked up behind me, wrapping his arms gently around my waist, resting his chin on my shoulder as we looked out at the falling snow outside.

"What are you thinking about, my love?" David whispered softly into my ear.

"I’m thinking about how much can change in a single year," I smiled, leaning back against his broad, warm chest.

Suddenly, eight-year-old Lily came twirling across the hardwood floor, wearing a brand-new, handcrafted lavender velvet Christmas dress that Maria had made especially for her.

She twirled in a complete circle, her skirt floating around her knees, her face radiant with pure, unadulterated joy.

She stopped right in front of us, placing her hands on her hips, and looked up at David with bright, sparkling eyes.

"David!" Lily asked proudly, her voice ringing clear through the warm room. "Do you like my dress?!"

David let go of my waist, dropping down onto one knee on the hardwood floor in front of my daughter. He looked at her with a devotion and love so profound it brought sweet, happy tears to my eyes.

"Lily," David said softly, taking her small hands in his. "I think you look like the most beautiful, wonderful princess in the entire universe."

Lily let out a joyful, bubbling laugh, throwing her small arms around David’s neck, hugging him tightly. David hugged her back, lifting her up into his arms as she giggled.

I reached out, taking David’s hand in mine, and pulled my daughter close against my side.

Outside the grand windows, the snow fell softly over the quiet gardens of Stamford. But inside our home, surrounded by truth, love, and unstoppable strength, there was only warmth, light, and a promise that would last forever.
