Chapter 7 - The Dawn of the New Meridian

Three weeks later.

The trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange was deafening with the roar of traders, ringing bells, and flashing green numbers across massive LED screens.

At 9:30 AM sharp, Eleanor Bennett-Whitmore stood on the iconic podium overlooking the Exchange floor.

Beside her stood Frank Higgins, representing the employee union, and Victoria Vance.

Behind them, projected across the towering forty-foot digital screens hanging above the floor, was the newly unveiled corporate emblem of The Bennett-Meridian Group—its restructed charter dedicated to sustainable corporate governance, employee equity sharing, and historical preservation.

The main bell rang. The crowd below cheered wildly as the stock ticker flashed:

BMG — OPEN: $142.50 (+18.4%)

Wall Street had responded to the restructuring not with panic, but with unprecedented enthusiasm. The removal of Grant’s toxic debt load, combined with Eleanor’s massive personal capital injection from the Bennett Trust, had transformed the company overnight into one of the most stable, highly valued conglomerates on the market.

Down on the floor below, reporters rushed toward the podium stairs, microphones extended.

"Mrs. Whitmore! Mrs. Whitmore!" a senior correspondent from CNBC called out. "What is your first major executive action as Chairwoman of the Board?"

Eleanor stepped up to the podium microphone, her smile bright, radiant, and peaceful.

"Our first action," Eleanor announced, her voice ringing out across the trading floor, "is the immediate establishment of the Marjorie Bennett Industrial Pension Guarantee Fund. Over fifty million dollars of restructured corporate profits have been permanently placed into an untouchable trust to ensure that no worker in our company will ever have their retirement threatened by executive greed again."

The trading floor erupted into another round of deafening applause. Traders on the floor began clapping rhythmically, shouting their approval.

"And what about Grant Whitmore?" another reporter yelled over the noise. "Has there been any communication regarding his current whereabouts?"

Eleanor paused for a brief moment. She adjusted the microphone, her eyes calm and unbothered.

"Mr. Whitmore is no longer affiliated with this enterprise," Eleanor said simply. "We wish him well in his private life."

She stepped back from the podium, took Victoria's arm, and walked down the stairs into the private executive lounge, leaving the noise of Wall Street behind her.
