Chapter 6 - The Fifth Avenue Reckoning

At 2:15 PM Eastern Time, the grand boardroom on the 50th floor of Vale Tower in Manhattan was filled with tension thick enough to cut with a knife.

Twenty board members sat around the forty-foot mahogany table. At the head of the table sat Victor Vale—a silver-haired man in his sixties with cold blue eyes and a smug, victorious smile. Standing beside him was a team of four high-priced corporate attorneys holding heavy leather folders.

"Gentlemen," Victor announced, knocking his signet ring against the polished wood. "As you know, my nephew, Dominic, has abandoned his duties for over three weeks. His personal obsession with his late wife has rendered him incapable of leading a Fortune 500 company."

Victor gestured to his lead attorney, who stepped forward.

"We have submitted to the SEC a legal proxy authorization," the attorney declared, "granting Vice-Chairman Victor Vale full voting authority over the 12% share block registered to Mrs. Nora Vale. Combined with Vice-Chairman Victor's holdings, we hold 52% of the voting stock. We move for an immediate vote to terminate Dominic Vale’s executive contract."

Murmurs of agreement rippled through the older board members.

"Is there any objection?" Victor asked, leaning back in his leather chair, preparing to savor his ultimate victory.

Suddenly, the massive eighty-inch digital display screen at the front of the boardroom flickered.

The corporate logo vanished, replaced by a crystal-clear, high-definition video feed.

The entire room went dead silent.

Sitting in a sunlit leather armchair, dressed in an immaculate charcoal-grey suit, her hair styled in elegant waves, a single strand of pearl necklace at her throat, was Nora Vale.

Beside her chair stood two small, handsome boys in matching navy blazers—Jack and Noah—looking calmly into the camera lens.

Victor dropped his pen. His face went as white as a sheet of paper. "What... what is this?!"

"Good afternoon, gentlemen," my voice echoed through the high-end surround sound speakers of the boardroom, smooth, authoritative, and laced with absolute power. "I apologize for not attending in person, but raising the future heirs of Vale Enterprises requires my presence on the West Coast."

A collective gasp exploded across the room. Board members stood up from their chairs, staring at the screen in utter shock.

"Nora..." one senior board member stammered. "You're... you're alive?!"

"I am very much alive, Mr. Vance," I replied with a cool smile. "And so are my sons—Jack Dominic Vale and Noah William Vale—the biological sons and sole heirs of Dominic Vale."

Victor slammed his fists onto the table, his face turning purple with rage. "This is a farce! A pre-recorded hoax! Cut the feed! Cut it now!"

"If you touch that feed, Victor," I warned, my tone dropping into an icy register that froze him in his tracks, "my legal team will immediately file criminal charges for corporate forgery, proxy fraud, and bribery of a state medical official."

I held up a thick white document to the camera screen—a document bearing the official seal of the State of Oregon and the Supreme Court of New York.

"I have just executed a formal revocation of any proxy agreements associated with my 12% block," I announced clearly. "Furthermore, as the controlling trustee of the Vale Family Estate, I hereby cast my entire 12% vote against the motion to remove Dominic Vale."

Right at that exact moment, the heavy double doors at the back of the boardroom swung open with a resounding crash.

Dominic walked in.

He was wearing a black suit, his coat open, his eyes burning with lethal intent. Four federal marshals and two NYPD detectives stepped into the room behind him.

Dominic didn't look at the board members. He looked directly at the giant screen at the front of the room—at me, and at our sons.

A breathtaking smile of sheer pride and love flashed across his face before he turned his attention to his uncle.

"Hello, Victor," Dominic said smoothly, stepping up to the head of the table. "I believe these federal officers have a warrant for your arrest regarding wire fraud, offshore bribery, and the illegal release of a psychiatric patient."

The marshals moved in instantly, grabbing Victor’s arms and forcing them behind his back, snapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists.

"You can't do this!" Victor shrieked as he was dragged toward the door. "I am a Vale! I built this company!"

"You built nothing," Dominic replied cold bloodedly, stepping up to the head of the table and taking his seat as CEO. "And as of this moment, you own nothing."

Dominic looked up at the digital screen, his eyes locking onto mine across three thousand miles.

"Thank you, Mrs. Vale," Dominic said softly, his voice carrying clearly through the silent boardroom. "The board meeting is adjourned."
