Chapter 8 - The Celebration at the Estate

On Saturday evening, a week after the reunion, our estate in the rolling hills outside Columbus was filled with light, laughter, and warm music.

We hosted an intimate dinner party on the stone terrace overlooking the valley. Present were the board members of Meridian Biotech, our scientific team, Marcus Vance, Elena Rostova, and my closest personal friends.

The air was crisp and cool, filled with the scent of burning cedar wood from the outdoor fireplaces.

Daniel stood by the grill, chatting with Marcus about an upcoming clean-energy investment project in Europe, while Lucas ran across the velvet lawn chasing our two rescue golden retrievers.

I stood by the terrace railing, holding a glass of real champagne, watching my family.

Daniel stepped away from the grill, walked over to me, and slid his arms around my waist from behind, resting his chin gently on my shoulder.

"You look thoughtful, Dr. Chen," Daniel whispered, his breath warm against my neck.

"I was just thinking about how different this week could have been," I said, leaning back against his chest, enjoying the absolute safety of his embrace. "If I had listened to my old insecurities... if I had let Brandon's words get inside my head at that reunion."

"You were never going to let him win, Olivia," Daniel said firmly, kissing my temple. "You gave him a chance to be civil. He chose to be cruel. He just didn't realize who he was messing with."

"I couldn't have done it without you, Daniel," I admitted, turning around in his arms to face him, looking into his deep, steady dark eyes. "Not because I needed your money... but because I needed your belief. You reminded me who I was before I walked through those gym doors."

Daniel smiled, his eyes overflowing with unconditional love.

"Olivia, you were a force of nature long before I met you," he said softly, smoothing a stray lock of hair behind my ear. "My only job in this life is to stand beside you, hold your hand, and make sure the world gives you the space you deserve."

He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small, velvet ring box.

I raised an eyebrow, laughing gently. "Daniel Reeves, we're already married."

"I know," he smiled, opening the box.

Inside sat a breathtaking platinum band set with an emerald-cut blue sapphire, flanked by two flawless diamonds—a custom piece designed by a master jeweler in Paris.

"I bought this six months ago," Daniel said, taking my hand and sliding the ring onto my finger alongside my wedding band. "To mark the day you became the official Chair of the Global Bio-Tech Council. I was saving it for a special moment."

I looked down at the sapphire, sparkling under the patio lights, then looked up at my husband, my heart overflowing with an overwhelming wave of joy.

"This is definitely a special moment," I whispered.

He pulled me close and kissed me deeply, surrounded by the laughter of our friends, the sound of our son's joyful shouts, and the complete, unshakeable peace of a life built on truth and unconditional love.
