Chapter 8 - The Legal Wall

The next morning, Marcus’s father, Robert, visited my office accompanied by an elite estate and asset-protection attorney named Sarah Vance.
"After what happened yesterday," Robert said, sitting across from my desk, "we need to make sure they can never attempt to touch your business, your house, or your estate."
Sarah Vance opened a black leather folder.
"Athena, I’ve prepared three documents," Sarah explained concisely. "First, a formal Cease and Desist notice delivered via process server to your parents and sister today. Second, a Notice of Trespass filed with the Portland Police Department for both your bakery and your home."
"And the third?" I asked.
"A comprehensive ironclad trust," Sarah smiled. "Your business assets, your home, and your personal accounts will be held under a private family trust naming Marcus and your future children as sole beneficiaries. Even if your parents attempt a spurious lawsuit claiming 'filial support' or 'back pay for upbringing,' they won't even be able to get a hearing judge to open the file."
I signed every document with a steady hand.
That afternoon, two uniformed process servers delivered the legal notices to my parents' house just as the bank’s foreclosure notice was being nailed to their front door.
Aunt Karen tried to post a long, rambling Facebook post accusing me of "abandoning elderly parents in crisis."
Marcus immediately sent her a copy of my lifetime bank statements showing the $247,500 I had sent them, along with a polite note from Sarah Vance warning her that public defamation of a commercial business owner carries treble damages in civil court.
