Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Battle

The corporate headquarters of Carter Enterprises was a towering monolith of glass and steel in the heart of the city. The atmosphere inside the top-floor boardroom was thick with tension as William walked in, flanked by his lawyers, with me, Mason, Luke, and little Leo following close behind.

Julian Vance was already there, sitting at the head of the table with a smug smile on his face. Several board members looked uncomfortable, while others looked ready to sign William’s professional death warrant.

"William," Vance purred, leaning back in his leather chair. "Bringing your maid and your children to a removal vote? Is this a desperate play for sympathy, or have you truly lost your mind?"

William didn't take his seat. He stood at the foot of the table, his presence commanding and powerful, the true king of his empire.

"I brought my family, Julian, because the allegations you brought before this board concern my character as a father and a leader," William stated, his voice echoing with absolute authority. "And since you used my ex-wife’s paid fabrications to question my stability, I believe the board deserves to hear from the people who actually live in my home."

Vance scoffed. "Children’s testimonies hold no weight here. The numbers speak for themselves, Carter. The stock is dropping."

"The stock is dropping because of a coordinated smear campaign," I spoke up, stepping forward. I handed a flash drive to the chairman of the board. "On that drive, you will find the confession of your head of security, whom we caught last night attempting to plant forged documents in Mr. Carter’s home. He was paid directly from a shell company owned by Vance Industries."

The boardroom erupted into whispers. Vance’s face drained of color. "That’s a lie! A cheap fabrication!"

"It’s not a lie," Luke said, stepping up next to me. He looked at the board members, his young voice ringing clear and true. "Our dad didn't break our family. Our mother left because she wanted money. Our dad stayed. He worked every day to protect us, even when we were angry and mean to him. He isn't unstable. He is the strongest man we know."

Mason joined his brother, looking directly at the chairman. "If you fire our dad, you're ruining the company he built for us. And we won't let you do that."

The chairman looked at the flash drive, then at the twins, and finally at William, who was looking at his sons with a pride so fierce it brought tears to my eyes.

"The evidence of corporate espionage is undeniable," the chairman announced after a brief consultation with the legal team. "Julian Vance, you are stripped of your voting rights pending a criminal investigation. And as for William Carter..." The chairman smiled warmly. "The board expresses its full confidence in your leadership. Meeting adjourned."

Vance stormed out of the room, his lawyers scrambling behind him, his empire crumbling in a single afternoon.

As the room cleared, William sank into a chair, letting out a long, shuddering breath. The twins immediately ran to him, throwing their arms around his neck. William held them tight, his eyes damp as he looked up at me over their shoulders.

"We did it," he whispered.

"You did it," I corrected, smiling. "You passed their test, William."
