Chapter 10 - A Life Restored

Later that night, long after the guests had departed and the lanterns had been turned off, I walked upstairs to check on Mateo.

He was sleeping soundly in his bedroom, his small hands curled around a plush bear. His breathing was soft, steady, and unburdened by fear. I leaned down, kissed his forehead, and pulled the light blanket over his shoulders.

I walked back down the hallway to our master bedroom. Valeria was sitting at her vanity table, taking off her jewelry.

I walked up behind her, placing my hands on her shoulders, looking at our reflection in the mirror.

The shadows were gone. The grayness in her skin, the hollow terror in her eyes, the ragged clothes—all of it had been replaced by the quiet, radiant beauty of a woman who knew she was loved, respected, and secure.

"What are you thinking about?" she asked, turning her head slightly to rest her cheek against my hand.

"I was thinking about the ship," I admitted softly. "About how, every night when the engines shook my bunk, I used to close my eyes and try to imagine what coming home would feel like."

"Is it like you imagined?" she asked with a subtle, affectionate smile.

"No," I replied, leaning down to kiss her neck. "It was a long, dark road to get here... but this is better than anything I ever dreamed."

We held each other in the quiet warmth of our home—a home built not on betrayal or stolen money, but on truth, resilience, and unyielding justice.

The sea had tested us, the monsters had tried to consume us, but in the end, the storm had broken. We were finally safe in our harbor, and nothing would ever tear us apart again.
