Chapter 2 - The Architect of Shadows

Three days later, the fallout was spectacular. The Moretti shipping empire, a pillar of the local economy, was rocked by accusations of money laundering and human rights abuses in their overseas warehouses. Daniel’s own firm, which had been secretly funneling assets through the Moretti channels, saw its stocks plummet as federal investigators raided their headquarters.
Claire sat in a small, nondescript café on the outskirts of the city, nursing a cup of black coffee. She wore a simple trench coat and oversized sunglasses, looking like just another commuter. In reality, she was the ghost in the machine.
For seven years, she had played the "forgetful wife." While Daniel was out playing the big-shot executive, she had been meticulously documenting everything. She had access to his passwords, his digital footprint, and his careless conversations. She had spent three years learning how to navigate the dark web to ensure that when she finally struck, it wouldn't be a messy argument—it would be an extinction-level event for their reputations.
Her phone buzzed. It was an encrypted message from a source within the district attorney’s office.
“The Morettis are scrambling. They’re trying to liquidate assets to cover the shortfall. Daniel is desperate. He’s looking for you, Claire.”

Claire allowed herself a small, mirthless smile. Let him look. He had spent years telling her she was useless, that she was a "charity project" he had rescued from obscurity. He had no idea that she was the one who had been holding the strings of his entire life, waiting for the perfect moment to let them snap.
She knew Daniel would try to use his remaining influence to intimidate her. He would try to make her look unstable, to paint her as the scorned wife who lost her mind. But she had prepared for that, too. She had recordings of every time he had belittled her, every time he had threatened her, and, most importantly, the evidence of his own criminal negligence.
