Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

One year later.

The morning sun broke over the turquoise waters of the Amalfi Coast in Italy. The Mediterranean breeze carried the scent of lemon trees and salt air across the terrace of a breathtaking cliffside villa.

Laughter echoed across the marble patio.

Three small, healthy toddlers—Leo, Arthur, and Maya—were playing on a soft woolen blanket under the shade of a large umbrella. They were chubby, happy, and full of life, taking their very first wobbling steps toward a collection of wooden toys.

Claire stood near the stone balustrade, wearing a flowing white linen dress, her long hair blowing gently in the wind. She watched her children with tears of gratitude shining in her eyes.

Two warm, powerful arms wrapped around her waist from behind, pulling her back against a broad, solid chest.

"What are you thinking about, my love?" Alexander murmured, resting his chin softly against her shoulder.

Claire leaned back into his embrace, placing her hands over his. "I was just thinking about how close I came to losing everything on that cold bus in Manhattan."

Alexander turned her gently in his arms so she was facing him. He looked down at her with infinite tenderness, his gray eyes filled with a deep, unwavering devotion.

"You never lost anything, Claire," Alexander said softly, brushing his thumb across her cheek. "You were just clearing away the ashes so we could build something magnificent."

He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. He opened it to reveal a flawless, rare blue diamond ring that shimmered like the sea beneath them.

"Claire Bennett," Alexander said, stepping back onto one knee on the warm marble floor. "You brought light into a life that was once made entirely of stone and shadow. You gave me a family. You gave me a heart. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"

Claire’s breath hitched. Tears of pure, overwhelming happiness spilled over her lashes. She looked at the man who had pulled her from the dark, who had fought for her children, who had cherished her like a queen.

"Yes," she whispered, her voice overflowing with emotion. "Yes, Alexander! A thousand times yes!"

Alexander smiled—a bright, dazzling smile—and slipped the ring onto her finger before standing up and pulling her into a passionate, breathtaking kiss.

Over on the blanket, the three triplets giggled and clapped their tiny hands, as if celebrating the victory of love over darkness.

The storm was finally over. The sun had risen, and Claire Bennett had found her forever home.
