Chapter 10 - The New BeginningSix months later.

The summer sun shone brightly over the Winnetka estate, bathing the green lawns and blooming gardens in warm, golden light.

The cold, silent marble fortress of twenty thousand square feet was gone, replaced by a vibrant, laughter-filled home. The grand formal dining room had been transformed into a cozy family area filled with soft couches, children's books, and wooden toys.

Out on the expansive back lawn overlooking Lake Michigan, a giant colorful bouncy castle was set up near the edge of the grass.

It was the triplets' eighth birthday party.

Loud, joyful laughter filled the summer air. Dozens of neighborhood children were running across the grass, playing tag and eating ice cream.

Carter was leading a group of boys in a high-stakes soccer game, shouting clear instructions with absolute confidence. Thomas was sitting at a picnic table with three school friends, laughing happily as he showed off his bear, which now wore a tiny handcrafted knight's armor.

And Finn—little Finn, who had once been afraid of his own shadow—was running full speed across the lawn, chasing a flurry of soap bubbles, shouting loudly with utter delight.

Near the edge of the terrace, Alexander stood watching his sons. He wore a simple linen shirt and shorts, looking relaxed, healthy, and completely at peace. The lines of exhaustion that had once carved his face were completely gone, replaced by a warm, contented smile.

Grace walked out onto the terrace carrying a tray of fresh lemonade. She wore a simple, beautiful yellow summer dress that caught the breeze, her light brown hair falling softly around her shoulders.

Alexander turned as she approached, stepping forward to take the heavy tray from her hands and setting it on a outdoor table.

He reached out, slipping his fingers through hers, pulling her gently against his side.

"You look beautiful, Grace," Alexander whispered softly, leaning down to kiss her temple.

Grace smiled, resting her head against his broad chest, watching the boys play. "Look at them, Alexander. They're so happy."

"Because of you," Alexander said softly, his voice rich with deep, undeniable emotion. He turned her gently so she was facing him, his dark eyes looking down into hers with profound sincerity. "Six months ago, I thought my life was over. I thought my house was ruined, my sons were lost, and my heart was stone. You didn't just save my boys, Grace. You saved me."

Alexander reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, elegantly crafted velvet box.

Grace gasped softly, her hand flying to her lips as her heart leaped into her throat.

Alexander dropped onto one knee on the lush green grass, holding the box open to reveal a stunning, brilliant diamond ring that caught the bright afternoon sun.

"Grace Bennett," Alexander said, his voice thick with emotion, his eyes shining with pure love. "You brought light into our darkness. You taught us how to play, how to laugh, and how to love again. My boys adore you, and I love you with every beat of my heart. Will you do us the honor of making this family complete? Will you marry me?"

Over near the bouncy castle, the three boys suddenly stopped playing.

"Look!" Carter pointed, shouting loudly. "Dad’s on his knee!"

"Is he asking her?!" Thomas gasped.

Finn let out a joyful shriek and began sprinting across the lawn toward them. "Grace! Say yes! Say yes!"

Carter and Thomas chased right behind him, their small faces lit up with pure excitement.

Grace looked at the three boys running toward them, then looked down at Alexander, who was waiting with a hopeful, pounding heart. Tears of pure, unadulterated happiness spilled over her cheeks.

"Yes!" Grace cried out, her voice ringing clear across the sunny lawn. "Yes, Alexander! A thousand times yes!"

Alexander stood up, slipping the diamond ring onto her finger before pulling her into a deep, passionate kiss.

A second later, the three little boys slammed into their legs, wrapping their arms around both Alexander and Grace, cheering and shouting with triumphant joy.
