Chapter 10 - The Promise Kept

One year later.
The estate in the coastal town of St. Jude—a quiet, sun-drenched sanctuary three hours north of the city—was surrounded by blooming white roses, tall oak trees, and the soft, rhythmic sound of ocean waves crashing against the cliffs below.
The Torino family had changed.
The dark, blood-stained operations on the East Side had been systematically dismantled or converted into legitimate maritime transport logistics firms under the direction of Marcus and Tony. The old violence was gone, replaced by an impenetrable wall of legitimate wealth and legal protection.
On the wide wooden back porch overlooking the sea, a small party was underway.
Eight-year-old Emma ran across the manicured green lawn, her bright laughter floating through the warm summer air as she chased a golden retriever puppy. She wore a simple yellow sundress, her dark hair blowing wildly in the sea breeze, her face radiant with pure, unburdened joy.
Sarah sat at the wooden patio table, wearing a crisp white linen dress, laughing as she reviewed the blueprint designs for the new St. Mary’s Pediatric Wing—a state-of-the-art facility entirely funded by the Torino Foundation, where she now served as Chief Director of Care.
Vincent stood by the porch railing, dressed in a simple navy linen shirt, holding a glass of iced tea.
He watched Emma jump over a flowerbed, the puppy tumbling happily behind her.
Sarah walked up behind him, slipping her hand gently into his. "You're thinking about Leo again."
Vincent looked down at Sarah, his thumb softly stroking the back of her hand. "I think about him every time I hear her laugh."
"He’d be proud of you, Vincent," Sarah whispered, leaning her head against his shoulder. "Look at her. She isn't afraid anymore."
Vincent looked out over the sparkling blue ocean, feeling the warm sun on his face and the steady, comforting weight of the woman standing beside him.
He pulled a small brass object from his pocket—Leo Vane’s cracked pocket watch. The glass had been restored, polished until it gleamed like a diamond in the sunlight, and inside the back casing, beneath the old inscription, Vincent had added three new words:
Love keeps it safe.
"Uncle Vincent! Sarah! Look!" Emma shouted from the lawn, holding up a bright blue seashell she had found near the garden path. "Look what I found!"
Vincent smiled—a wide, genuine, beautiful smile that reached all the way to his eyes.

"Show me, Emma!" Vincent called out, stepping down from the porch onto the soft green grass. "Show me everything."
As he walked across the lawn to join his niece and the woman he loved, the dark shadows of the midnight knock faded completely into the golden light of a future built on truth, sacrifice, and an unbroken promise.
