Chapter 9 - The Wedding in the Field

The wedding took place six months later, in the middle of a blooming clover field behind the Miller estate.

There were no high-society reporters, no celebrity guests, and no corporate sponsors.

Instead, the field was decorated with long wooden benches made by local carpenters, string lights hanging from the branches of the old oak trees, and hundreds of wild yellow daisies—Nora’s favorite flower.

The entire town of Pine Hollow was there. Local farmers, schoolteachers, nurses from the clinic, and children from the art center sat side-by-side with Victoria Chen and a small group of restructured Hart Enterprises executives who had learned to respect their Chairman's new life.

Julian stood at the front of the altar—a simple archway woven from willow branches—wearing a sharp, dark navy suit. Beside him as best man stood Marcus, looking unusually emotional for a former elite soldier.

The music began—a gentle, acoustic guitar rendition of a song Owen used to play on his old porch.

Iris walked down the aisle first. She wore a white lace flower girl dress with a wreath of yellow daisies in her golden hair. In her basket, instead of flower petals, she carried small, polished red wooden apples, dropping them gently along the grassy aisle with a proud, beaming smile.

Then came Nora.

She was breathtaking. She wore a simple, flowing ivory silk gown that caught the soft afternoon breeze. She held a bouquet of wildflowers, and her face shone with a radiant, pure happiness that made the entire audience hold its breath.

As she reached the altar, Julian took her hands in his. His fingers were trembling slightly, his eyes burning with tears of joy.

The local minister smiled at them both. "Who gives this woman to be married to this man?"

Iris stepped forward, planting her tiny feet firmly on the grass. "I do!" she announced loudly.

The entire crowd burst into warm, affectionate laughter.

Julian and Nora exchanged their vows—simple, honest promises written from the heart, spoken under the open sky before the people who loved them most.

"I give you this ring," Julian said, slipping the platinum band onto Nora’s finger, "as a promise that you will never stand alone in the rain again."

"And I give you this ring," Nora replied, slipping a matching band onto his finger, "as a promise that your home will always be filled with love, laughter, and an open door."

"By the power vested in me," the minister declared, "I now pronounce you husband and wife."

Julian pulled Nora into his arms, kissing her deeply as the crowd erupted into cheers, whistles, and applause.

Iris jumped up and down, throwing her wooden apples into the air, while the string lights above them flickered on against the twilight sky.
