Chapter 10 - The Master of the Board

One year later.

The warm summer evening breeze swept softly across the rooftop terrace of the DeLuca Tower.

The city of New York stretched out below like a carpet of glittering diamonds. The storm was long gone, replaced by a clear, starry sky.

A grand celebration was underway. Over two hundred guests—business leaders, reformed city officials, federal prosecutors, and senior executives—filled the terrace, enjoying fine food, vintage wine, and live classical music.

Thomas Miller stood near the marble bar, looking healthy, sharp, and proud in a tailored grey suit. Beside him sat his wife, fully recovered, her face radiant with health as she laughed with Dr. Vance.

Near the glass edge of the terrace stood Cassidy.

She wore an exquisite floor-length white silk gown that shimmered under the soft moonlight. Her dark hair fell in elegant waves over her shoulders. She held a glass of fine champagne, looking out over the city she had conquered.

A soft, familiar step sounded behind her.

Alessandro walked up beside her. He looked magnificent in a dark blue dinner jacket, his dark eyes warm as he stood beside the woman who had transformed his entire life.

"You're ignoring your guests, Head Auditor," Alessandro murmured softly, a dry, warm smile on his face.

"I'm evaluating the ROI of this party, Mr. DeLuca," Cassidy teased back softly, leaning her shoulder gently against his arm. "The catering bill is three percent over budget."

Alessandro let out a rich, deep laugh—a sound that was no longer rare or cold, but full of genuine warmth.

He reached into his breast pocket and pulled out a small, velvet-lined mahogany box.

Cassidy’s breath caught in her throat. She looked from the box up to Alessandro’s dark, intense eyes.

"Alessandro..." she whispered.

"One year ago tonight, Cassidy," Alessandro said softly, taking her hand in his. "You walked into a private dining room carrying a heavy coffee pot. You were tired, broke, and invisible to every fool in that room."

He opened the mahogany box.

Inside sat a stunning ring—a flawless, emerald-cut five-carat diamond set upon a band of platinum, engraved with fine maritime ropes.

"You saved my empire, Cassidy," Alessandro whispered, his voice trembling with a deep, unyielding emotion. "You gave my family a future built on honor instead of blood. You restored your father’s name. And you showed me that true power isn't held in guns or contracts... it's held in a heart that refuses to bend to lies."

He looked directly into her hazel eyes.

"I don't want a business partner, Cassidy. I don't want a chief auditor. I want you. By my side, as my equal, as my wife, for the rest of my life."

Cassidy looked down at the glittering diamond, then back up at the man who had seen her when the rest of the world looked through her. The man who had given her justice, respect, and a love deeper than the ocean.

Tears of pure, unadulterated joy filled her eyes as a brilliant smile illuminated her face.

"Yes," Cassidy whispered, her voice clear and strong. "Yes, Alessandro. Always."

Alessandro slipped the ring onto her finger, pulled her close against his chest, and kissed her under the vast, glittering expanse of the New York sky.

Below them, the city hummed with life, but on the top of the world, the broke, invisible waitress and the fearsome mob boss had built a kingdom that no lie could ever break again.
