Chapter 8 - The Boardroom Siege

Friday morning arrived with bleak, overcast skies. The 50th floor of Montgomery Tower was tense. The glass-walled boardroom was filled with the fifteen members of the board of directors, men and women in dark suits representing billions in institutional capital.
Arthur Montgomery sat at the head of the long mahogany table, looking serene and victorious. He adjusted his silk tie as Camila walked into the room, dressed in a sharp black suit.
Behind Camila walked Elias, carrying a leather briefcase, accompanied by Julian and a senior legal strategist.
Arthur raised an eyebrow, a dismissive smirk touching his lips. "Camila, this is an internal emergency board meeting. Unregistered guests and... rough laborers... are not permitted in this chamber."
"Mr. Elias Vance is here as a material party to the matters you have raised, Arthur," Camila said calmly, taking her seat at the opposite end of the table. "Since you have chosen to attack my character and the legitimacy of my children, their father has a right to be present."
A murmur went around the room. Several board members whispered among themselves, looking at Elias, who pulled out a chair and sat down next to Camila, his posture erect, his gray eyes fixing Arthur with an unyielding glare.
"Let's not waste time," Arthur declared, knocking his knuckles against the table. "The media circus surrounding Ms. Montgomery’s personal life has wiped eight hundred million dollars off our market capitalization in forty-eight hours. Furthermore, questions regarding the paternity of the heirs specified in the Montgomery Family Trust place our corporate governance structure in direct breach of loan covenants with our primary lenders."
Arthur looked around the room, securing nods from several allied board members. "I move for an immediate vote of no confidence to remove Camila Montgomery as CEO and appoint an interim management committee under my leadership."
"Before you second that motion, members of the board," Elias spoke up, his deep voice easily cutting through the quiet room. He didn't sound like a lawyer; he sounded like an authority.
Arthur sneered. "You don't have a voice here, young man."
"I have a voice when it comes to criminal conduct aimed at my family," Elias said smoothly. He opened his briefcase and pulled out a stack of bound documents, sliding them across the polished table to each board member.
"What is this nonsense?" Arthur snapped.
"Those are forensic financial audits and private security communications," Elias stated clearly. "Over the past ninety days, Arthur Montgomery has shorted over four hundred thousand shares of Montgomery Logistics stock through shell accounts registered in the Cayman Islands under Helios Capital."
Camila chimed in, her voice razor-sharp. "Arthur intentionally manufactured this crisis to drive down the stock price, intending to buy back controlling interest at a fraction of its value—a clear violation of federal insider trading laws and a breach of his fiduciary duty to this board."
The room erupted into shocked whispers. The board members quickly flipped through the pages, their expressions turning from cold detachment to outrage.
"This is a fabrication!" Arthur shouted, slamming his hand on the table, his composure finally slipping. "A desperate ploy by an unwed mother trying to hold onto power!"
"We also have signed affidavits from the operatives of Vanguard Tactical," Julian added from the back of the room, holding up a tablet playing a video confession. "Detailing how Arthur Montgomery paid them fifty thousand dollars to track, intimidate, and forcibly collect DNA samples from three seven-year-old children outside their school."
The lead board member, an elderly woman named Eleanor Vance (no relation to Elias), looked up from the documents, her face pale with disgust. She looked directly at Arthur.
"Is this true, Arthur?" she asked quietly.

"It's a lie! They're setting me up!" Arthur yelled, standing up so fast his chair rolled back against the glass wall.
"The Securities and Exchange Commission and the NYPD have already been provided with copies of these files," Camila said smoothly, standing up to face her uncle. "Security is waiting downstairs to escort you from the building, Arthur. Your time at Montgomery Logistics is over."
