Chapter 10 - Forever Guaranteed

Three Years Later.

The spring morning in Dallas was breathtakingly clear.

The gardens of the Highland Park estate were in full, brilliant bloom. White roses—the same flowers that had decorated my tragic first wedding twelve years ago—arched over the stone walkway leading to the back terrace.

But today, those white roses carried no shadow of the past.

Today, they represented a fresh, untainted beginning.

Inside the sunlit dressing room on the second floor, I stood before a full-length gilded mirror, wearing an elegant, simple cream silk wedding gown. My hair was styled in soft, sophisticated waves, and at my neck rested my mother’s pearl necklace, gleaming brilliantly in the morning light.

Evelyn Reed stepped into the room, holding a bouquet of fresh white orchids and lily of the valley.

"You look breathtaking, Claire," Evelyn said, her eyes shining with genuine emotion.

"Thank you, Evelyn," I smiled, taking the bouquet. "For everything."

"Are you ready?" she asked.

"More than ready," I replied.

I walked down the grand mahogany staircase—the same staircase where Grant had once ordered me to know my place—and stepped out onto the sun-drenched back terrace.

Gathered on the lawn were sixty of our closest friends, family members, and colleagues.

Standing at the end of the white rose arch was Julian Vance—formerly Julian Cole.

After turning eighteen and graduating at the top of his class from a premier preparatory school funded by the Vance Trust, Julian had legally renounced his father's name and applied to be formally adopted into the Vance family. He was now a bright, ambitious sophomore studying business at UT Austin, working as a summer intern at Vance Logistics.

Standing beside Julian under the arch was Thomas Mercer.

Thomas was a fifty-two-year-old federal prosecutor—the chief attorney who had dismantled Grant’s financial network three years ago. Over the past two years, our professional respect had bloomed into a deep, quiet, and profound love built on mutual honor, unwavering honesty, and absolute respect.

He wore a dark charcoal suit, his dark eyes filled with warmth and deep devotion as he watched me walk down the aisle.

Beside me, holding my arm with steady, proud strength, was my father, Arthur Vance.

As we reached the arch, my father took my hand, placed it gently into Thomas’s palm, and whispered, "Take care of my girl, Thomas."

"With my life, Arthur," Thomas replied softly.

We stood beneath the white roses, surrounded by the warmth of genuine love and true family.

As the minister spoke the sacred vows, I looked into Thomas’s steady, honest eyes. There were no secrets here. No fake proposals. No hidden agendas. Only two mature, strong people choosing to walk together into a bright, boundless future.

"I give you this ring," Thomas said, sliding a simple, elegant platinum band onto my finger, "as a promise of my unwavering love, my deepest respect, and my eternal protection."

"I accept this ring," I replied, my voice clear and filled with joy, "as a promise to walk beside you in truth, strength, and joy forever."

"By the power vested in me," the minister declared, "I now pronounce you husband and wife."

Thomas leaned in and kissed me softly under the warm Texas sun, while the entire garden erupted into joyful applause and cheers.

I turned to face our friends and family, my hand wrapped securely in Thomas's, my father smiling proudly from the front row, my nephew cheering from the terrace.

May you like

I looked back at the house that had once been a place of violence and humiliation, now filled with light, music, and love.

The illusion was gone. The truth had won. And forever was finally guaranteed.
