Chapter 10 - The Dawn of the Sunfire

One year later.
The capital city of Solaria was decorated from its outer gates to the high palace walls in banners of bright gold and royal purple. Thousands of citizens lined the streets, tossing yellow rose petals into the air as trumpets blared from every tower.
Inside the Grand Cathedral of the Sun, sunlight streamed through multi-colored stained-glass windows, painting the marble floors in shades of ruby, sapphire, and gold.
King Alden sat upon a velvet throne near the altar. Though still frail, his cheeks were full of healthy color, his eyes bright with a deep, enduring peace that had eluded him for seventeen years.
At the altar stood Mara.
She wore a breathtaking gown of shimmering white silk embroidered with gold thread, her dark copper-streaked hair styled in intricate royal braids held by a crown of light gold and diamonds. The golden phoenix crest on her collarbone shone softly, no longer blazing in defense, but glowing with a steady, gentle warmth like a summer dawn.
Standing beside her, wearing the high ceremonial uniform of the Commander of the Royal Guard, was Lord Julian.
Archbishop Valerius stepped forward, holding the heavy, ancient Crown of Solaria above Mara’s head.
"By the grace of the Sunfire bloodline, by the light of the ancient crest, and by the love of her people," the Archbishop proclaimed, his voice echoing through the silent cathedral, "I crown you Queen Aurelia, First of Her Name, Sovereign of Solaria!"
As the golden crown was gently placed upon her head, the entire cathedral erupted into thunderous cheers and applause.
Queen Aurelia turned to face her people. She looked past the cheering dukes, ladies, and foreign ambassadors, out toward the gallery where the palace kitchen staff—her old friends who had shared crusts of bread with her when she was a scullery maid—sat in the front row, wearing fine silk clothes she had personally gifted them.
She offered them a warm, knowing nod, letting them know that the scullery girl had not forgotten where her strength was born.
Beside her, King Alden wiped a tear from his eye, smiling as he squeezed her hand. "Your mother would be so proud of you, my daughter."
Aurelia turned to Julian, who stepped up beside her throne. He bowed deeply, but as he stood, Aurelia took his hand in hers before all the court, refusing to let him bow to her as a distant subject.
"You don't have to bow to me, Commander," Aurelia whispered, her eyes shining with warmth.
Julian smiled, his hand closing gently around hers. "Then I will walk beside you, My Queen. Always."

Together, hand in hand, Queen Aurelia and Commander Julian walked down the long marble aisle toward the open cathedral doors, stepping out onto the sunlit balcony overlooking the grand city below.
The cold ice water of the past was gone forever. The dark shadows of treason were burned away. Under the bright, golden sun, a new era of peace, justice, and light had finally begun.
