Chapter 10 - The Master of My Fate

Two years later.
I stood on the balcony of my penthouse apartment overlooking the ocean, watching the golden sunset paint the sky in shades of rose and amber. The cool sea breeze carried the fresh scent of salt and summer.
Inside, the sound of soft piano music played quietly. Julian was setting the table for dinner, laughing as he tried to adjust the centerpiece flowers.
My phone chimed with a gentle notification. It was an automated monthly statement from my financial institution. I unlocked the screen and glanced at the numbers—my investments, my business equity, my independent estate, all fully secured, fully managed by me, and growing steadily.
I closed the app and slipped the phone into my pocket.
My mind briefly wandered back to that noisy ballroom three years ago, to the sound of the jazz trio, the dark green gown, and the arrogant demand of a woman who thought she could claim ownership over my life's work.
“Beginning tomorrow, your income should go into the family account.”
I smiled to myself, taking a sip of wine.
If I could go back in time to that night, to that young woman standing beneath the chandeliers with a platinum band on her finger and uncertainty in her heart, I wouldn't change a single second.
